Hello... My name Is Irwin Dsouza. I own a Bajaj Discover Dts-i 2005 Model. I got this bike on 5th may 2005 that makes it 05-05-05, and since then she has been running absolutely problem free...She does'nt have alloy wheels but the most shinning rims...I want to improve her capabilities even more and would like you to give me your technically sound sujjestions and not dumb coments like i got last time..So here goes..

1) I want to fit the GRS Rear suppensions of Hero Honda Hunk.

2) Can i fit a Fuel Injector system that bosh offers as coustom made product.

3) I want to fit the front suspensions of Yamaha FZ16, that too upsidedown if possible or an coustom made suspension.

4) I want to make the seats a little bit broader to help me in my long drives.

5) I want to make the gearbox into a 5 speed unit.

6) I want to fit a free flow exhaust that isn't too noisy..

Kindly specify the neccesary and important methods to follow to make these modifications with the availability of the genuine parts in bangalore. So I am expecting a technically sound professional to answer to the above quiries and not some dumb jerk who only knows to comment about these mods..Hope you will reply back soon. Irwin Dsouza, Bangalore..

Doing so much of modifications on a Discoversmiley3.gif

I will try.

1. You have to check whether the length of both Suspensions (Discover and Hunk) is identical or not? And why do you want Hunk's Suspension? You can check out with Discover 135 or XCD 135 Rear Gas Suspension. I guess Bajaj's Gas Shocks would be able to match the length instead of Hunk.

2.FI system needs much modifications as ECU, Air Intake, Ignition Timings, etc which needs more money and professional guy.

3.Fitting of FZ16 Front Suspension will also need modifications to suit the Bajaj. I guess the Forks of Yamaha would make the Bajaj's steering heavy.

4. The seats can be custom made from local cushion maker in the desired size and shape.

5. Again this needs professional guy and the Gearbox and the Engine need modifications to suit the 5 Speed Ratios. These Ratios must have to be properly spaced.

6. Dont have much idea about"Not Too Noisy" FEE.

1) Regarding suspension modification, it would definitely affect ride and reliability, very badly. And also Hunk's suspension will be very stiff for Discover.

2) Switching from Carb to FI is very expensive and i think, it can't be done seperately.

3) Regarding suspension modification, it would definitely affect ride and reliability, very badly

4)This can be done easily. As said by sudeepd, as the local cushion maker.

5) This again is a tough job. Only professionals can do.

dont have much solution for your problems buddy..i am no retailer n not even i got the specifications.

1)@ GRS Suspension - I don't think it makes sense of putting other bikes suspension..may be coz that looks better.. about the nut and bolts, they are usually same so you can get it changed. but ya length would be affected and offcourse it would affect balancing too.

as said b CC too,Hunk's Suspension are stiff.

2)@ installation of FI- See Fuel Injection is not merely set of nozzles, venturi and float chamber and not even it is mechanically driven. As the name suggests it it has got injectors and sophisticated mechanism controlled by ECU. So i dont think its wise to replace the carb with FI..,or say it will be too expensive to change whole assembly and then synchronizing it with the old system.

3)@ front FZ forks Those are called telescopic forks and ya ones which you are asking about, the Inverted ones.. aren't yet incorporated on indian bikes. and i dont think if you can get them custom made.

4)@ Seats- See your seat, footrests.handle, your posture n like everything is designed ergonomically... and designers do spend lot of RnD..that precious time n money. and so they come up with best possible what they can do.

See if u make it narrow it wont rest your body and if it goes wider it would obstruct your legs and you will have to spread them more while riding.

Changing your seat design is quiet an easy task but make sure it comforts you.

5)@ 5 speed- All gears are installed in the gear box. and have proper meshing there in. So if you want to make it a 5 speed gear box..,again u have to do a lot of work on gear box..or may be have to change whole gear box.

n even then need lot of arrangement for other systems..,making them work together.

6)@ Exhaust Well I don't think Discover exhaust is noisy. Its really smooth and free flow. You can obviously change it,n that may increase your power too,if the silencer is good. but mind it.. can damage your valves too.

though i have suggested/commented on all..,but i would still suggest you to keep the bike the way it is and if really want all such things..better get a new bike. Even i keep working upon my bike but try not to affect its rideability and handling.

@Blue, See if u want your bike to look good and as you said about the front looks, the bike has to be in an equation on all aspects. Shouldn't be the case that you make it look heavy at the front and it still has a rear 90 tyre. so whatever you do to make it look good make sure you take care of everything.

What will be the problems if i fit a 90/90 17 tyre or the MRF 80/80 17 thats on the honda Stunner, to the front rims..I am currently using 3.00 17 rear tyre on the front of my bike, it wobbles because of a defective centre tread..but otherwise has done a lot good to my bike in tearms of road grip....So what do you guys suggest...

Welcome to the Forum Irwin. The Bajaj Discover DTSi is basically a city runabout. It is an economy bike. I would advise you not to do any kind of modification, especially the ones to the suspension which could be a safety hazard.

You could port the Head for a little extra performance though. And Maybe Jet the Carb. You could also add an aftermarket Air Filter. But appart from that, i would advise you not to do anything to your bike!!

Happy Riding!!

Thank you Cyrus.. i have actually done all the mods you have mentioned one year back itself, but i want to visually and mechanically improve her capabilities even more...hence i am requesting all your advices...But i will take care of her and i don't have any plans to sell her, because the asking rate for her is under 20k and i have probebly spent more than 50k on her so far....

Blue I think u can make it upto 100/90 tyre...,not so sure if discover had 17" or 18" tyre. and also wider than this wont even your chassis support or not even it will be good for discover power and performance.

Have you really spent 50k on your bike?? Can you please post some pics and explain in detail what all have you worked upon?

That bike has been with me for the past 5 years and has been delivering all fronts...And hey why are all you guys surprised when i said 50k. the amount i have spent on fuel and i only use shell super that costs 5 Rs more than normal fuel from the day i purchsed the bike, service for every 2000 Kms without fail, addind a front disk brake assembly, new flexible indicators, Ind number plates, fitting the original instrument pod which has the tachometer, getting the rear swingarm painted to silver from the original black, fitting of the rear tyre hugger, fitting of the ignition on off swith of pulsar instead of the ride controle switch, getting the engine gaurd painted silver, fitting of new tyres, irredium sprk plugs 8 and 9 numbers, fitiing of K&N filters, rewinding the dynamo to increase the head light power, fitting of europe made original phillips 55/50 bulb, using of only 100% synthetic oil from Mobil one or Motul, washing the bike every second sunday and using mettle polish for mettle surface, crome polish for cromed surfaces, plastic polish for plastic surfaces, leather polish for the seat and tank cover, non greecy tyre polish and all thse items are from the well known brands only and good colleection of stickers and endless amount of time spent on maintaining her..Its my bike and i like to keep her looking good..and hey if she looks good then i look good, You can call me obsesive or anything but that's who i am.My bike is my extention of life and I feel proud when people stare at my bike and ask me questions about her....Ok, Now you do the maths for your bike and wonder about the actual amount you have spent on your bike and then compare it to mine...and tell me how much you have really spent...huh what say...

You have taken very good care of the bike, yeh the bike is a extension of you, bike look good..so do you! that's the fact, my only point is that you have done enough on this bike and further mods may not be healthy for your bike nor for you, i.e. intense mods don't always work well, may cause accidents if not done professionally. Cheers to your Enthusiasm.

Thank You Anijog.. I love that machine it was the bike that I wanted to go for and that's the bike i got, that too on the 5 th of may 2005 and i got the keys of the bike at exactly 5:00 pm that makes her 05-05-05 at 5 pm and i did'nt ask for it.. It was fate and i am not complaining....and Im not going make unwanted modifications and make her feel horrible or cause problems to her...so if these mods are harmless and functional only then i will carry out the mods...

Your Enthusiasm amazes me!! As I have already mentioned, Go Ahead with the Modifications ONLY if they do not affect with your overall balance. Remember, This is a Motorcycle, not a car. At least in a car you have the shell to rely on if you have suspension failure!! In a Bike, you dont!!

Best of Luck!

True Cyrus....one has to make sure while working upon a two wheeler that the balancing should be untouched or least bothered....

And ya the way you are taking care of your bike is really appreciable. i am again requesting you to put pics of your bike..
