Toyota has plans for a hatch??

Recommended Posts

Today morning around 6am I was travelling on the Sarjapur-Attibelle road on the outskirts of Bangalore and I saw a toyota hatch pass by. Seemed to be a test vehicle. I clearly could see the toyota badging, but since it was passing by in opposite direction, I could not see it in more detail.

This was surprising because I have not heard about any Toyota hatch plans in india in the next few months atleast...

Any more info on this?

Rajeev, i think you would have spotted the Toyota Yaris hatchback which has been tested around Bangalore. Toyota is mainly testing it for testing their 1.4 diesel which would make its way in Altis, Yaris hatchback & sedan. This to me would be biggest killer for Honda.

Yaris just rocks!

My dad will purchase one pakka if it launches

When we went to US, our uncle owned a Yaris, what a brilliant car, fun to drive and spacious comfy, superb interiors i must say and looks brilliant. A perfect rival to Jazz, will beat the hell out of it.

1 December 2004 - PSA Peugeot Citroen and Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) today announce that their three-year joint project to design, develop and produce three all-new small passenger cars for the European market is close to fruition.
To mark their progress, the two companies have decided to release the first official photograph of the three four-seater vehicles, Peugeot 107, Toyota Aygo and Citroen C1. Due to go on sale in 2005, they will be unveiled in the metal to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

While the three vehicles share a large number of structural components, parts and sub-assemblies they each have separate and distinct bodies that reflect the individual styles of the Peugeot, Citroen and Toyota marques.

Each car measures about 3.4m long, 1.6m wide and 1.4m high (see below for dimensions). Powered by the latest generation 1.0-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engines, these compact, fuel-efficient cars will be particularly suited to urban driving. They will also feature advanced safety and environmental protection technologies. The cars are primarily aimed at the European market, where demand for this type of vehicle is expected to increase.

Developed on a common platform, all three cars will begin rolling off the production lines at the Toyota Peugeot Citroen Automobile (TPCA) plant in Kolin, Czech Republic, in 2005, in line with the development and plant construction timetable jointly announced in July 2001. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles - 200,000 units for Peugeot and Citroen and 100,000 for Toyota.

The project is expected to contribute widely to the local community, particularly as far as local job creation at TPCA and its suppliers is concerned. It has already created 1,500 jobs at TPCA, with plans to hire a further 1,500 people. Total investment, including research and development and production start-up costs, is estimated at

Look is so good and expecting engine too.

I think toyota launching petrol model only.

My guess in price as follows

Yaris will be with 1.2 L engine and price will be 5~7 lakhs

Aygo will be with 1.0 L engine and price will be 4~6 lakhs

Yaris will give tough competition to i20, Fabia, Jazz

Aygo will give tough competition to i10,Swift,Ritz

So other car makers has to prefare to face this tuff competition

I think toyota launching petrol model only.

Toyota will surely bring the diesel Yaris which has been spotted testing around Bangalore before. That same engine will be plonked in Yaris sedan( Vios) and Altis. But i guess Altis specs might be better.

I think Toyota entered India before Honda, but due to wrong assessment of Indian market by Toyota, their Indian operation have lagged behind.

It is high time they introduced more main stream models like Yaris etc., in India, more so as their sales in other markets are stagnating.
