Indica Vista Quadrajet Engine Noise

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I had purchased indica vista quadrjet aura on 14th january. Prior to that i had an ambassador. It was a very new experience for me changing from all manual to all electronic control. But the change i noticed and loved the most was the engine noise. I couldn't believe it was a diesel engine. Absolutely no noise and vibration inside the cabin. Well the vehicle has run 2600km till date and i am more than satisfied with it. First service has been done. However after 1 month of 1st service the engine noise increased a bit. I can now feel some vibrations and noise comming inside the cabin. Even at idle the engine noise can be heard inside the cabin (with or without ac on). Earlier I couldn't notice any noise when the engine was kept idle. I would like to know if this is normal. Also will the noise decrease after second service?

Thanks FRG. Will certainly try it.

By the way has any of the vista quadrajet owner experienced such problem? And one more thing. Can anyone tell me which of the two cars indica vista qjd or swift vdi has got lesser engine noise inside and outside the cabin.

hi Abhisheik,

well i too own a QJD, first the engine noise is negliable. but after first service engine noise can be felt. i pointed the same to service engineer. they sorted it out . as you know diesel engines tend to make noise. clean your air filter. for vibrations check the mounts and bolts to be tight.

further noticed a new swift vdi making more noise than my QJD i mean engine noise at idle condition.

This is a issue with all tata vehicles. My CS also clattered a lot after the 1st service, there was a particular problem which was attended too, the ac knob was not getting selected to windscreen vent position so the dash was opened to get to this problem after which the clatter was more pronounced. If the packing between the engine wall and the dash get's disturbed this occurs, get it checked again for this.

Calling neo will you be more specific about what the service engg. did to lower down the noise? Was the noise lowered down to the initial level?

I will certainly get my air filter checked but isn't it a bit too early for a new vehicle?

By the way how is your car running now? I mean what about the noise now?

I have also heard that using system D reduces noise to some extent. Can anyone tell me what is system D and how to use it? Where can I get it?

I use normal HP diesel. Shall I use it? The manual doesn't recommend using system D.

hi

not sure what they did exactly for my engine noise. what i observed is that they opened the filter box, thats what i observed .

system d is not of much use at this moment. if you car has run for more than 10k then it will wise to use it.

my car is running at less noise. i dont say it is eliminated but not audible from cabin. further  also check the diesel quality. i used to fill at shell. but when i went for vaccation i noticed during small break the noise from engine is pin drop silent. have you taken your car for long drives. sorry for late reply.

By the way my second service is due in june. I would like to know what things to keep in mind. What things should I get changed? Engine oil, filters etc. Also kindly suggest me which engine oil to use in my vista quadrajet. I have read that mobil delvac 15W40 is a very good option. What are experts' opinions?

Mobil Delvac 1 is one of the best engine oils put there, but availability is a problem. Mobil Delvac MX 15W-40 is another good choice, since it meets one of the strictest norms in the world, Volvo VDS-3, as also ACEA B4/E7.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Umesh. I will try my best to get delvac 1 otherwise will go for 15W40.

Can experts throw some light on the use of premium diesels. I have read mixed reviews on their usability and profitability. People say they increase engine noise. Shall I use premium diesel or normal diesel? The former one is however not recommended by TATA.

Premium diesels are only regular diesel with cleaning agents added, which a CRDI engine does not need because the injection pressures are in the order of > 1400 bar, which is self-cleaning by itself.

As a rough comparision, the pressure washers used to clean the underbody of cars usually operate at around 100 bar.

Further, the compatibility of the seals used in the fuel system with the additives in premium diesels is in doubt.

However, as an upside, the premium diesels usually have higner Cetane ratings, which leads to more even combustion.

To play it safe, I use only regular diesel, and have noticed no ill effects till now.

Regards,

Umesh

As a follow-up to my earlier post, Mobil 1 0W-40 and Mobil Synt S 5W-40 are both approved for the Tata Indica Vistas with the Quadrajet/Safire engines, to be changed at 20000 kms or 1 year, whichever is earlier.

My indica vista diesel has same problem Rattling noise at idle position. My mechanic told me to replace the alternator adjusting bolt and nut.. It was completely worn-out. Only problem is i am unable to find this spar-part anywhere in my city. Even checked the TASC but they say they maintain spare-parts only for new models.
