rssh
Sunglass holder never have seen I but does it come in Fabia above the rear view mirror? . I don't think a fuel seal lock is required as in case of Fabia because if you open the outer cover then you will be fuelling and it is rediculous to remove the car and unlock that seal. DreamTheCar
I really don't feel that there are any features in a car that is useless.. Every is self explanatory. whether it be a cruise control or for instance heated seats. Tamanna Khanna Indian Car Advisor www.carazoo.com
rssh
India is a country with varied climatic conditions and feature like heated seats ,acc ,fog lamps ,can be both wanted and unwanted features so I think we can't really debate on this. cavallino
Fair enough I guess about AC, fog lamp and heated seats I guess but explain the point of a sunroof in a country like India or things like sun glass holders (always standard and can't be adjusted to the size of the sun glass) or electrically adjustable seats (cars have seats that can be manually adjusted forward and back, down and up; is it really essential to have that electric motor?). Its beyond silly for car manufacturers to have features like these in car and yet cut corners on pricing by not including things like adjustable head restraints which can go a long way in preventing whiplash in a really heavy accident. shriraj24_7
i think none of the features of a automobile can be lablled 'useless'. The answer is... it depends. E.g. no one needs mad massaging seats, but for a fella like Ambani, it is quiet important to have it. One would regard the wipers on headlamps as useless, unless you were going on a dirt road in the middle of the night. The spectacles holder in the accord? Someone could really use them. To the fella who said 'Cruise control' is useless, total disagree Mr.
Durango Dude
Can't blame the manufacturer's really. The Indian attitude remind's me of the song "I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want them now". It's one thing that dictate's car buying choices, every one need's a better featured car; take for example the Nano: the top end variant had more taker's than the lower one's; if it's so for an entry level car like Nano, just think of the model's like the S Klasse then the 'mad' massaging seat's makes sense. sgiitk
@DD: I agree with you. As for the Nano the base model was just to beat the 1L promise. Today the average car buyer wants AC as a basic utility. So that brings in the middle model. The the price difference becomes minor. Also, over the years I have learnt that as far as possible get what you want factory installed! I fully agree with the view that there will be some takers for every feature. Personally, I find sun roof, cruise control and spectacle holders of no use, the first two for their total unsuitability for Indian climate & road conditions. sgiitk2009-05-29 08:00:
speed
As the Indian market is evolving & people having increased exposure from Developed world, they would be demanding all sorts of features on their cars, be it useless or useful. Only after the market has adequately matured, will the people be able to judge the importance or uselessness of features. For now they just want to be one up on their neighbour! Juggernaut
Indicators on the outside rear view mirrors according to me are useless. I wonder who it alerts that you're turning. There's one in front (headlamps), there's at the back (taillamps), and there's one in the front side fenders. Now, who are we trying to alert with the rear view mirrors blinking? And those small little fog lamps that come standard within the bumpers (like the Swift, Estilo, Getz, Lancer etc). What are they supposed to be doing? They don't light up the road ahead anyway. Agreed that proper fog lamps are better, but in dense fog any small bit helps. This fog is a regular phenomenon for the past decade plus.

If you see most (or almost all) of the Luxury Cars have this feature to give upmarket look. Some of the C- Segment cars (Eg. Fiesta) also now possess this feature unlike some months ago. Sure this feature costs more to replace than normal OVRMs since it requires more wiring, bulbs, etc. But It Lends Classy and Upmarket Look to the Car.sudeepd2009-05-29 12:52:
sparshq
Yeah, even I am about to add these to the ORVM's of my car.
rssh
I would avoid turn indicator on ORVM as people in my area always love to break the orvm mirrors and they would be delighted to break the ORVM .

Durango Dude
Indicator's on OVRM's will not stand up to the rigor's of Indian city driving. My right side OVRM has had 3 hit's till now and withstood all three and the electric motor is working just fine. An indicator would surely had broken to bit's by now. BonFre
Maximum people I've seen, keep their side mirrors folded due to the fear of scratching/breakage. Simple reasoning is that repair/replacements are expensive. Again pedestrian traffic is to blame largely, but I have seen Govt. erecting pillars inbetween roads to curtail heavy traffic(buses/trucks) but the pillars are so closely placed that a car with open ORVM's can't pass & in some cars, the Orvm's do not fold! Also, some lanes are so narrowly built that there's hardly place for opening Orvm's.
sarabjeet
indicators on OVRMs are quite usefull , when turned on it instantly catches the eye (maybe because of better postining , and better visibilty from rear view mirrors)
