Why do FWD cars have transmission tunnels

Recommended Posts

BTW

always wondered why it is called transmission tunnel

the transmission is the gearbox, and that is up ahead, if at all it comes just after the dash under the central console

the tunnel is for the prop shaft or the propellor shaft

In RWD cars the prop shaft transmits the power to the wheels hence the term transmission tunnel.
