Toyota Fortuner a titanic hit; bookings closed for 7 months

The Toyota Fortuner

has surpassed all expectations in India. Prior to the launch, TKM

claimed 2,500-odd bookings were recorded and merely days after its

launch, it says bookings are shut, thanks to the earth-to-moon long

queue.

Toyota says it has received 3,100 orders for the vehicle, a lot more

than the monthly manufacturing capability of 550 vehicles in Bidadi,

where it also makes the Corolla and Innova.

The CKDs arrive in India from Thailand and Toyota does not have a

second plant to shift assembly. It says it will be working to touch the

monthly mark of 600 Fortuners to restart bookings as early as possible.

Yesterday it came in TOI Nagpur about 25booking in the city of which 3 have been delivered. Toyota wasn;t expectin this kind of response. Anyways even with shooting price its unbelivable to see that people are still buying SUV, I think Captiva will remain captivated from now.

Fortuner bookings exceeded 5000 in just 15 days whereas CRV sold just 77 in August, so how can it be said that CRV has met its match.

It was no match at all. CRV stands trounced by Fortuner 6-0, 6-0, 6-0

CRV & Fortuner do not go head to head. both belong to diff. category of vehicles. Fortuner is a hardcore SUV while CRV is a softroader.

Otherwise too CRV was affected due to price hike & lack of a diesel.

Toyota needs to get rid of their Market survey team. I mean they could not just anticipate the demand & people have been crying hoarse for such a long time, literally begging Toyota to bring in the Fortuner.

Im really pissed off with Toyota's behaviour, long live the Endy.

You are absolutely right according to me. Its high time they should throw out their *****ic market survey team. It does not need a sixth sense to conduct a market survey and arrive at a logical conclusion. Its just a matter of common sense that is essential.

Toyota could have achieved atleast the third position in the Indian market even without launching a hatch back or an economy model. Toyota's products are highly reliable and the word of mouth publicity is enough for them to achieve their targets.

But unfortunately they are not bringing in the right products at the right time except Innova. If they had introduced a diesel engine for the Corolla it would have been the undisputed leader in its category much earlier by outselling the already retired Octaviasmiley11.gif. Launching the Yaris sedan could have definitely terminated the monarchial reign of Honda City.

I have a doubt whether the market survey team or the partnership with Kirloskar is really pulling Toyota out of the straight and obstacle free Indian track. Is Kirloskar group having any financial limitations for further investments to improve the product range?

Toyota in India is like a Musk Deer which searches for the scent produced from its own musk gland.

Wake up Toyota, the Indian market is not different from the world market. You can do it like you did it all over the world.

Kirloskars have only a 1% stake in Toyota Kirloskar Motors so they cant be blamed for this. Toyota worldwide is known to be a slow moving and conservative company, so they took their own time.

But yes they could have easily entered the Top 5 manufacturers club, if they introduce the right products. I understand that they are planning a new small car for India which will start rolling from their new upcoming plant.

Fortuner is definitely the Best SUV in its category. IMO Captiva come a close second but then the TOYOTA badge just steals the show away. Indians have done a brilliant job by acknowledging the Fortuner's capability by giving its Stratospheric bookings!

Indians have seen the quality and service provided by Toyota with their earlier Qualis, Innova ,Corolla, Camry and hence the tremendous response for the Fortuner. This shows how a good car and ASS can hit the goldmine!
