Ford's New Small Car : Ford FIGO

Recommended Posts

Ford saved here Rs.8-10k by not plonking the Power Window here.

Aftermarket power windows set for 2 windows comes pretty cheap.

Agreed Sir' date=' MGA Fr. Power Windows costs 5k, so Ford's set of will be slightly expensive than that, say 6-6.5k..

Really a Smart Cost-Cutting here without compromising the Customer here (very unlike the Toyota, who introduced their Rs.8-10 lac with Single Front wiper.).

Which Toyota?

I am talking about Toyota Etios Sedan...

Plus Icing on the cake is the fact that the Ford's Made In India 1.4l TDCi Duratorq engine (appeared 1stly in the New Ikon TDCi

The engine that appeared in Ikon first was a 1.8 L unit & not a TDci.

1.4L Tdci debuted in Fiesta in India.

I am talking about the New Face-lifted Ford Ikon TDCi here which got the

Made in India 1.4l TDCi Duratorq engine earlier, later on it started appearing in the Ford Fiesta, as earlier to that the Fiesta came with the Imported 1.4 TDCi diesel Engines....

(Source: Salesman at Ford Dealerhip explained me this when i asked him the reason behind the Low & Aggressive pricing of the New Face-lifted Ikon TDCi Diesel).

Imo Rear power windows won't cost more than 4k. The issue here I guess is more to do with the relative need/use of power operation. For a semi/half roll down, power is un-necessary.

Toyota Etios is yet to come, lets see what they offer then. Plus, single wiper is a design innovation. If Im not wrong, Honda uses it too on the Civic.

On your last point, I guess the salesman has mislead you with false statements.

What's your final take on Mumbai floods?

Got some interesting info about the Ford Figo,

-This is the first Ford to be signed off by an Indian engineer, by the name of Sundar Sundarrajan. Ford has finally learnt the art of frugal engineering.

-A lot of research and development has been done to make the car cheaper. About 80 per cent of the car has been indigenised, including the 1.2 petrol engine.

-For this project some 84 prototypes and 136 pre production cars were made. The cars went through 7.5 lakh kilometres of cumulative testing or the equivalent of 2 million kilometres of customer testing. The car has been tested in Australia and Europe.

-A total of 20 crash tests were undertaken on the car. The car will feature ABS and front airbags (driver and passenger) as an option. A passive Anti-Theft system will also be available.

-Ford says it's the first European bred affordable car for the masses in India. And therefore the pricing will be competitive. We assume that prices will start at Rs 3.6-3.7 lakh for the base petrol going up to Rs 5 lakh for the top-end diesel version.

All these tests to just give a new bumper/headlight & a slightly modified bonnet

They could have launced it much before and could have avoided this Diesel Hatch Rush' date=' thats gonna be happen in 2010.

Seems ford is playing safe. i.e, before Micra/ Polo/ Beat hit the market, thousands of Figo will be in road

Beat has already hit the market buddy.

BTW still is better to wait for Micra before buying a FORD figo, i think Micra will be a better product overall. And polo will be in different league altogether.

Also where Figo misses out is features, even in Titanium variant (top-end) we cant see the rear power windows let alone the A.C.C, integrated audio system, alloys, etc.

Beat has much more features, even my Spark LT has more things than Figo which is a new launch. People along with space, quality, etc are attracted more by features and we can see this with the success of Beat, Cruze, Superb, Manza, etc. Attractive Features are nowadays addition to space, quality, price, etc and not at the cost of it.bluesapphire2010-01-28 09:13:20

BS, i have earlier mentioned this rush as Diesel Hatch Rush, and i was talking about Diesel Beat.

Also avoid saying "My Spark LT", as even i drive the same, so from now say, Our Spark LT

@asethi : I had already posted the exact same news preceding a few post of yours. So you should have checked.

@cartoos : Why not swift, ritz or beat ? Even if initial prices happen to be less, in the long run i think these will be less costly to run.

In Order to replace WR, it should have some DNA of WR, that is enormous boot space & practicality, which Swift & Beat doesn't provide and Figo & Ritz provide. Of these 2, Figo is fun 2 drive, solid, good driving dynamics, so he much have planned to zero in on Figo.

I can't believe that Ford will still give us the step-mom treatment which many tried and failed already... remember the Peugeot story.  Even Ford itself had to face it with its Escort.

I hate the Figo for the same reason that I hated the Qualis... India is not some dumping ground for your old bangers.  Especially when I see the new generation Fiesta in flesh and get bowled over by it everyday. Toyota has pulled up its socks... but whatever happened to Ford...!

@Jitesh

Since Ford is entering the Hottest segment(Small Car) in India, so they don't want to bring any costlier model and kill it (as they did with Hatch/SUV- conFUSION).

So, to play safe , they share parts/platform, so the outcome is Figo. You get a whole lots of benefits at low cost with (some) compromise in looks.

If the package is so good, Indians hardly gives importance to looks, take Qualis as an example. Any how, IMHO, it looks better than Vista, which is running quite successfully.

You are right buddy, point taken.  I was just upset that the new Fiesta would still take some time to come to India.  On the positive side, I see that Figo is a prelude to the new gen Fiesta, which I am sure will be launched sooner or later.

The new generation Fiesta is a sight to see and a great package overall, even though the price tag has got dearer.  If they bring it to India, I think they would position it close to the Honda Jazz.

As Durangodude has mentioned elsewhere in this thread, I too thought that the new Ford Ka would be great for India, in a slightly stretched five door version.  Hope Ford is reading... :-)

I just happened to pass by a Ford showroom yesterday, and i noticed workers using ladders to fix some placards on the showroom walls, which to me looked like the Figo's pictures on them. If it is that way, then i guess the launch is just around the corner.

The European Ford Fiesta was rated 4-Stars for the Safety rating by the NCAP in Europe....

As the Ford Figo is actually the same Ford Fiesta hatchback in the Europe with just minimal Indian Adaptations....

So, another highly safe Hachback is coming very soon after the

Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20, Chevy Beat & Cruze,etc..........

Figo production from Feb 5

Chennai, February 2

Ford India will start commercial production of its compact car Figo at its plant at Sriperumbudur near here from February 5, according to a company official. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Deputy Chief Minister Stalin will inaugurate the plant on Friday, the official said.

Ford had signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government last year, under which it would invest an additional Rs 1,500 crore to expand the Sriperumbudur facility.

The investments include ramping up the Sriperumbudur facility to make new engines and for production of Figo, he added.

After expansion, Ford would add 1,000 employees to the existing 2,100 at the Sriperumbudur plant.
