Fiat Punto or Chevy Uva

Recommended Posts

Dear All, Iam from Indore and is planning to buy a new hatch back car. Grande Punto (active model) or Uva or Swift. Fiat doesn't have a dealership in Indore and no service station so I amin difficulty to buy Grande Punto. I don't know the about the future of Tata tie-up with Fiat. With Uva Ia have heard that GM is launching new car in 2010 and may discontinue Uva gradually. Is it true. My last option is swift vxi. Which car should I go for considering all aspects ie,technically, feature-wise and practical problems. Please reply me

Its unfortunate that you can not go for the Fiat Punto. But U-VA is way too old a design and a replacement is on its way so even if you get the discounts, do you think you would want to live with an old design.

I know its not in your list but I recommend you check out the Fabia which right now is selling for 4.5 Lacs and the i20 which I think is just a little highter than that. I say these two because i like them. Otherwise there are meny other options like Ritz, Swift(as you said), Indica vista, i10 etc.

Fabia dont go for it as maintainance will be expensive.  Even now they are selling with lots of features/specifications which are not part of standard equipment. Even its underpowered.

Go for Punto.

@anuprav

Dude, he made it very clear that his city does not have a showroom or service centre.

Although, Hari check if you have a TATA dealer there because they also can handle the sales and services for Fiats now.

I think you want to be exclusive, Swift VXI ABS will serve you well while buying, service and selling. Also consider the Ritz. I'd stay away from Punto 1.2 and Aveo-UVA. Punto 1.2 exists so that FIAT could arrive at really tempting price point.

No Bala I haven't called TM. Iam new to this forum. What is TM. And what is BIV .Please tell me. Yesterday I went to see  Punto and Linea .Mechmen motors Bhopal brought it to Indore to deliver it to some customer. But I saw other customers test driving these same cars. Is it ok. The sales guy said that since there is no Showroom at Indore they allow others to testdrive new cars. But I cant cope with that Idea. And as I enquired about the odometer he said chain is been removed. If it is correct then how could I know that how many Km the car has run before purchasing. They says one service station will be starting within 3 months in Indore. Can I trust them. The dimensions of Punto is great but when we enter the car I didn't feel it. In the front it is ok but rear it is little bit cramped

TM is Tata motors man, call them up and ask for test drive, i have given the details also.

BIV is a typo, i meant BS IV that is emission level, because of which, swift petrol is stopped now. We cant say for sure, when it ll reach our shores.

smiley1.gif Dear Bala, I  have seen the car and since this is my first car I dont know driving. I understand that swift will be shifting to Euro -4  K series engine. The main reason that Iam not going to Swift is the same reason and I hate Ritz. But Punto 1.2L petrol  is as per Euro-3 emission.Am I correct . I wrote to FIAT support team regarding this but they are not responding. does  Punto multijet diesel engine comples to euro-4 emission standard.

Thanking you Hari

You talking about BS-IV or Euro-IV.

As far as India is concerned BS-IV is enough, only if you are going to import your car to Europe, Euro-IV is required, so don't worry if its euro-4 or euro-44 or euro-444.
Punto will surely be BS-IV, ask TM to send a TD car, or you go to the address mentioned by me.

Thank u Bala. But those numbers are not working. The last number is of Sanghi automobiles  and they don't have any Idea of Fiat. That's Ok. Atlast I gave money to book Punto Active 1.2L There is no Emotion pack model with 1.2 L otherwise I would have gone for that.

Dear Friends, I have read in the forum that Palio1.1 is under-powered. If it is true then what is the case of Punto 1.2. Will it also be under-powered. I have only two days to go. and reverting to another car would be a big decision. So please reply

Punto won't be as underpowered as a Palio. Haven't you test drove a punto 1.2

see this(all ACI info)

                                 0-100kmph

Palio 1.1                       20.45(9.38 as torque)

Punto 1.2                      18.16 (9.76 as torque), santro is 9.8kgm

Punto 1.4                      16.58(11.67 as torque)

Punto 1.3MJD               17.84

So don't worry, it won't be as bad as you fear

In Ghat areas, you may need to switch off A/C if its too steep.

Best way to judge is to test drive the car, so whether its underpowered or not on paper, do check yourself. Like many said that Linea 1.4petrol is terribly underpowered but i found it adequate even for highway use when i drove it.

They brought Punto MJD 1.3 for test drive and it was okay. Comparing 1.2L Punto with kerb weight 1140 Kg and Palio1.1 Kerb Weight 990 Kg it accounts for a difference of 150 Kg with and extra power of 11 PS and extra torque of only 4Nm. using common sense I was calculating the power per passenger+Kerb weight ratio. Palio:Punto comes as 0.044 : 0.047 ie only a slight increase in power is observed. Is this calculation correct. If it is correct then Punto 1.2 L petrol also may be under-powered.Oh God.
