Have a few questions.

1. Does opening one wheel by self(using wrench) corrupt the alignment of the tyres?

2. What is the life of general coolant and gear oil ?
3. Do cat con require any service within the life of a car?

1. Haven't seen & experienced yet, even in cars having Wheels of Un-equal diameter.

2. For BS-III Alto, its 20-30k or 2-years.

3. No, Its completely Sealed & Non-Servicable part, Only Replacement is advised for clogged Cat cons.

Many Spark Ignition engines also do not have distributors - Santro, Accent, Civic are examples. The plugs are grouped in pairs with independent coils and the spark generated based on the crank sensor. One cylinder of the pair is entering the Power Stroke while the paired one is at the end of the Exhaust Stroke. Thus the spark only matters in the first. Modern engines tend to do away with the distributor for better reliability and precision of timing.

@CB

VXI comes with 15 inch tyres, unlike the 16 inchers that come with ZXI. Also even then these figures are very good for a sedan, which conventionally have a low slung profile. Quite a few liked SX4, but felt that it was too high for a Sedan when earlier ZXI GC was 190 mm. So with the current 180 mm, it gives the best of both worlds.

Whats the soln. for Clutch Shuddering?

My Swift jerks while starting in first gear, after which it vanishes. I got used to it, now my question is What is to be done to over come it?

I googled it, but find no solution, some says

-let the air in the clutch system bled out

-to drain the clutch fluid and refill it. there may be some air which can result in shudder

-flywheel problem

Have anyone of you experienced this?

When I enquired MASS, they said, Clutch total wornout and need to be replaced on next service. I thought it won't be a worn out as I don't feel any engine running excess or anything on that sort.

It's coming into picture only while starting from standstill or just moving in 1st gear very slowly, so as you said, I will live with it sir.

As the name suggests body roll is the phenomenon of the body of a car to roll bend/ tilt  mostly sideways, This is observed when vehicle is steered suddenly or while driving on a hill under these conditions the body of the vehicle tends to tilt towards the opposite direction following newtons law.

Effect- This causes uneven distribution of weight disturbing the center of gravity hence disbalancing the vehicle. It also results in poor handling and makes vehicle unstable at high speeds. It may also cause the vehicle to topple.

Body roll is found in cars with high roof and SUV

Hi Folks,

Im very weak in the technical aspects. I would like this thread to be used for asking some queries on technical things like, What is BHP, How does a turbo work, etc.

And my first question is about Paddle shift, How does a paddle shift work? Why is it available on the AT variants?

-BHP(Brake horse power) is basically a unit to measure the Output power of a machinery.

& 1BHP=746 watts.

-Turbo: Its basically a blower-type air blowing device attached to the engine, which helps in rushing the Air to the engine. Its always driven by a Pressure generated by the Exhaust Gases.

-Paddle Shift: These are basically a Set of + & - switches behind the steering wheel of sophisticated Automatic cars & are respectively meant for forced/Intentional Upshifting or Downshifting of the gears.

Well no! Certain high performance cars such as Mercedes CLK where available with manual paddle shifts but the car had its sticker price of 1 million pound. People didn't get use to such shifts which resulted in very expensive cluctch and gear box replacements.

If I am not wrong Aerial Atom V8 along with few british cottage industry cars still comes along with manual transmission paddle shift.sarabjeet2011-08-14 06:17:46

@sarabjeet;

For Manual Gearboxes there's already a Manual Gear shifter, so what's the need for a seprate Paddleshifter !!

I think that must be an dedicated gear shifter near/behind the steering wheel for faster On-the move down/upshifts.

Whereas, Paddleshifters is the Automatics serve some additional seprate role.

No brother , there is no gear stick its just the paddle shift for which you have to engage clutch. Here is the pic of Atom V8. pic 1 shows clutch and pic 2 show that it only has paddle shift.
