Is VW Polo, worth the wait?

Recommended Posts

Well VW when they came to India they said we don't want to clash our price with the Skoda group the Jetta is priced higher to Laura . Expect the base Polo to be priced at 20k more to base Fabia.

If they get 1.2lt Tsi to India then I will sell my i20 CRDi and get it only if it provides me atleast some features expected in the segment (unlike the JAzz).

Volkaswagen is expected to price its small car Polo above Rs 4 lakh,

and is planning to import premium models Phaeton and Touareg from May.

Volkswagen

will start production from its Chakan plant near Pune from January

2009. Joerg Mueller, president, Volkswagen India, said: "We will

manufacture the small car Polo at the Chakan plant from 2010, and the

car would be priced around Rs 4.35 lakh. The concept car Up, presented

at the Delhi Auto Expo in January, is in the process of development. It

would be the smallest possible car by Volkswagen, and could be priced

around Rs 1.80 lakh."

He added that Volkswagen has no plans to

compete with existing small car brands like Maruti 800 or Nano. "We are

developing Up in a completely different way, and the technology is

totally different from the one being used by Indian brands. Up is just

a concept car, and we won't launch it before 2012," he said.

Mueller

pointed out that Jetta would be on the Indian roads from May-end or

June. "We have priced Jetta between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, and it

would be assembled at the Aurangabad plant. Two other cars, Phaeton and

Touareg, would soon be fully imported," he added.

^^^^^

Interesting. Almost 2 years before the actual release of the car, VW could predict the price to be 4.35 Lacs? Inflation, global economy, global warming did not have an affect on these folks? Come Jan 5th,2010 - i am sure we can see how predictive are VW in pricing.

1.4 TDI PD Diesel --> 70 bhp --> 3 cylinder in Skoda Fabia.

CB was saying (ignoring the 1.2/1.4) that the engine is BS III compliant. So they cannot really plonk the same engine into Polo without any modification.

So, the wait continues.

BTW, all Business News channels have this VW Polo production update today.

Daya to go -- 23 days to go

Wow a red VW Polo,A very beautiful car to look on especially in the red as in the pics.,a really nice muscular & much proportionate butt section than its nearby rivals(swift & i20).

hope its performance will be as flashier & hotter as its red in the pics...
