creativebala 178 Report post Posted February 17, 2011 India and japan have signed a free trade agreement. For automobile industry elimination of duties in auto parts such as diesel engines and gear boxes would be done over a period of 10 years. Am I day dreaming? This means, will CRV fight against Safari & Scorpio, city fighting Manza,.. @Mitsubuzhi, atleast wake up now. @Mods, I feel, this news needs a separate thread.creativebala2011-02-17 08:21:
rahul1810 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2011 @CB This is elimnation of duty on parts. I think the CBU would still cost the same. However cheaper Jazz and City may be a closer reality.

itssanguine 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 Honda shall showcase Brio in India on 18th March - same day as its Thailand launch. However official launch may not take place before June-July and availability not before Aug-Sep'11. (source is ET & Twitter) I guess Honda is trying to steal some thunder out of soon to be launched Etios Liva- Brio's chief competitor.

itssanguine 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2011 Japanese automakers Nissan and Mitsubishi today announced partnership that will see the two companies work together on a mini-car project. The joint venture brings together the struggling Mitsubishi Motors with the more successful Nissan brand. As a part of the plan, Nissan has appointed its Senior Vice President Junichi Endo as CEO of the joint-venture, while Mitsubishi Motors Senior Executive Officer will be COO. No details on the vehicle itself have been named, but a mini-car is likely to be smaller than the new Concept Global Small Car that Mitsubishi unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show last week. Of note, Nissan recently had to scrap plans to deliver a vehicle for the Smart brand in North America after a corporate restructuring by Smart parent company Daimler brought development of that car to a halt. source

ashikawa 2 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 Honda, Hyundai, Volkswagen come under CCI scanner NEW DELHI: International car makers, Honda, Hyundai and Volkswagen, have come under the scanner of the competition watchdog CCI for abusing their dominant market position by selling auto parts to customers at high prices. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has asked its Director General (Investigations) to probe a consumer's complaint against the car makers, who allegedly abuse their dominant position by making available spare parts only through their authorised dealers, who in turn sell them on high rates. "This practice by the international car makers does not give the consumer a fair price advantage as he has no choice but to buy the spare parts from authorised dealers. Prima facie it makes a case and the DG has been ordered to probe the matter further," an official told PTI. The DG has been asked to submit his report on the findings within 45 days. While Hyundai Motors denied having received any communication from the CCI, emails sent to Volkswagen and Honda remained unanswered. Normally, auto spare parts from Indian car makers are available with any retailer, not necessarily authorised, but the case is not the same with international car makers. Consumers are stuck after having bought a car from the international car makers, according to the complainant, who filed the case under section 4 of the Competition Act, 2002. The Commission, which became fully functional in 2009, with the appointment of a chairman and six members, at present has the power to check anti-competitive agreements and abuse of dominant position, drawn from Sections 3 and 4 of the Competition Act, 2002. Beginning June, 2011, the Commission will also have the powers to check high-voltage mergers and acquisitions. dr_nishu 198 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 @ashikawa: That's really really a Great thing done for the benefits of the customers, which were financially beaten by the Authorised car dealers. Except Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Mahindra & Hyundai, no other car manufacturer neither retails its Genuine parts other than at their ASCs nor allows anyone to get that part fixed outside. It'll definitely provide a breath of fresh air for Honda, Skoda & VW Owners if the CCI succeed in their work.dr_nishu2011-03-15 14:36:

rahul1810 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2011 It was never a Brio launch, but an unveiling of the actual car and not the concept. But that however has been postponed. Honda has said that Factory has not incurred any physical damage, but is checking up on its employees and suppliers before deciding on opening the plants. Suzuki and Toyota are in the fray

ashikawa 2 Report post Posted March 21, 2011 Government of Indian clears CKD duty confusion MARCH 18, 2011 AT 3:04 AM The confusion about duty on automobiles imported as completely knocked down (CKD) units which rose after the 2011 Union Budget has been cleared thanks to a clarification by the government. According to the budget announcement all cars and two-wheelers which were assembled in India using imported engines and transmission were to attract 60% customs duty which is equal to what fully imported (CBU) vehicles attract. Since many premium carmakers like BMW, Volkswagen etc have local assembly units, they would have suffered if this was the new regulation. The government has however clarified that only if the engine and transmission were imported mated to each other (combined) then the 60% custom duty would apply. According to this clarification, manufacturers can still import engines and transmission separately and assemble them in India to qualify for the duty rebate which CKD vehicles enjoy (10% customs duty). This comes as a breather to the luxury carmakers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi along with Honda, Toyota, Skoda, Volkswagen etc who also import CKD units into India. According to this clarification' date=' manufacturers can still import engines and transmission separately and assemble them in India to qualify for the duty rebate which CKD vehicles enjoy (10% customs duty).[/quote'] Frankly speaking I'm happy with this decision & its explanation. IMO, Its just a initial step to generate more employment & Revenues to save the already burdened Indian Economy(leaving the corruption issues aside for a minute) & Indian Industry(can be better realised by thinking from the M&M, Tata & Maruti Suzuki side, as they're crazy who're Investing millions of dollars for their Powertrain plants). The finance minister also reduced the proposed Customs duty on CKD kits containing pre-assembled engine, gear box or transmission assembly to 30 per cent from 60 per cent proposed in the Budget.[/quote'] Might be due to Warning of Global Automajors like Audi, BMW, etc. & that's equally justified as; -1stly: Most of the country's Upper class use such vehicles including PMs, CMs, etc. -2ndly: Immediate implemantaion of such a bigger Slab isn't easily bearable for any strata of the Industrialists, whose huge Investments are already in the pipeline.
