BF: Thanks for the complement, Since almost the same questions are cropping up in many minds, let me

put it straight. Altis offers superb back seat comfort but the young man

that SG is, likes to drive & enjoy the F1 feel through the paddle

shifts. Not bad about a 58+ years old.  If I went for an MT it would have been the Altis, with AT it is the Civic. Also, as my son had warned me, once you sit in the driver's seat of the Civic you risk being addicted!

I plan no mods except for the Illuminated Running Boards and Fifth Alloy Rim. Both are on back order. As for HIDs unless I feel the need the answer is No. But then who knows. In general I keep mods to a minimum. My Accent only had a CD/Stereo!

May be at my age I needed an AT!!

As for the low slung design I hear it was sorted out to a very large extent by the modifications in the rear mounting points. In any case the problems were primarily in a car with 4/5 up load. It has been overhyped.

Yes, the cockpit look and feel are there. Wish that there were additional horn buttons or a wider boss for the horn.

I have heard about some issues while sitting in/out due to the car's low slung design.

What's your first-hand experience of it?

It is not a tallboy or SUV. No way worse than my old Accent.

ohkk....hows your experience of the vehicle in

terms of ride over bad roads?

How well the car soaks up undulations??

Good handling

does imply a somewhat rougher ride than a 'boulevard cruiser'.

Went on Friday to get the plates. The plates, and RC receipt were all there and the executive was as courteous as always.

Since Kanpur RTO is now 'computerized' they will take a minimum of two weeks to issue the RC!

The plate fixation job was tacky. I had put the printed out number and fixed it with sellotape. The fellow did not bother tor remove the paper or tape and just bolted the plates on top. After a duststorm I saw the tape marks, and took the plate off, and all was revealed. In the fixing process he also managed to slightly damage the threads in one bolt.

I am glad that I asked them not to drill and fix the front plates as God knows where the money would have drilled. Fixed them with double sided foam tape.

I have HSRP type plates on order from Utsav. I expect these today.

The fellow also insisted on bakhsheesh. So Honda are behaving like others!

HSRP Type Plates

Got HSRP type plates from Utsav (www.utsav.co.in). They really look good. They are the same as the HSRP's will be when they are introduced, incl. the snap-off bolts (supplied. Very prompt service - ordered on Friday afternoon and delivered on Monday morning. Most impressed.

If you order just watch out the only chance you have to enter the Registration No. is when you enter it. No checks / verification of detail in the ordering process.

@sb-alto: The cost is Rs.500 per plate + VAT @ 12.5% + Postage @ Rs.100. Total for two plates Rs.1,225.

These are supposed to have become mandatory as per Supreme Court orders. I understand that if they become the concessionaires for you state they may use the same plates and you get a discount. With HSRPs you will also have a sticker on the windscreen with the registration, chassis and engine nos.

You missed the 'snap-off' bolts. You cannot remove them. Once tight the heads of the bolts just break off. They ask for the brand/model - presumably to define the bolt size.

Rs1225 is quite cheap for two plates. Some fancy fibre plates costs around 2000-2500 and those with in built lights costs even more.

I hope the hologram and the "INDIA" prints on these plates are wash proof and will not come off with time.

Here in Kolkata, I have seen BMWs and Mercs with normal showroom made plates. They have the outlets name inscribed instead. I think it is these showrooms which need to make such plates mandatory if the govt wants to see these in all cars.

Snap off bolts are nice concept, but I was checking out the Utsav website and found some plates with normal screws.

I hear that WB has just made HSRPs mandatory. Also, they supplied the snap-off bolts and I used them for the rear. Maybe you can see them in the picture. Still have two left for the front which is screwed in. The plates are laminated so the Hologram and India should not rub off.

You could have asked them to give it to you for free. We mentioned the HSRP when we where booking the car and it was delivered to our home tow days after the car was delivered

All deals are not the same. In my case the package was different

@sgiitk which brand of tyre are there on your ride . If its goodyear then get rid of it asap ,because they will loose resale . Also I think you should upsize to 205/65R15 profile which justifies the power of Civic to be put on road .smiley4.gif

These add aesthetic value to cars but I didnt go for the HSRPs on my Altis for two reasons:

1. These do not provide complete tracking/security option. Assuming a car with hsrp is stolen, now-a-days this has become such an organised affair that the thieves will simply replace the front bumper and bootlid and snap on new plates!

2. Utsav is not the auth. hsrp plate provider in my state. There is more than one company looking to tap the hsrp market, so no one knows whether Utsav or Company B gets exclusivity for producing hsrps! I didnt want to spend money twice on number plates.

It would be great if manufacturers can embed tracking devices in the chassis - great for everyone - owners, police & banks! A smart chip of sorts - a non-reprogrammable gps signal transmitter and a programmable part which can store registration & owner details - which would transmit the vehicle reg. number to a wireless number plate!

For tracking, etc. there are other options available in the market with which one can track through ones mobile also. Vehicle black boxes, tracking chip, etc. offer these facilities. 

 

In an effort to maintain affordability, costs have to be kept in check. More technology means more price & hence lesser penetration, therefore defeating the purpose.

 

See, these devices act as deterrents. If a thief is hell bent, he will cut through any security but usually such aids repel most. Gear-lock, steering lock, central locking, etc. are also deterrents but used abundantly & justify their use. So, remember the word "Deterrence", main purpose is to deter thief's.

civic is a gem of a car....the i-vtec is brilliant but the lower end power is just about ok compared to corolla which has a powerful lower end...the civic's interiors feels a genration ahead of corolla though in terms of exteriors it depends on personal tastes.....however civic is really low on equipment and the car isn't exactly good value for money....corolla is high on equipment and it seems a vfm proposition...but all the more congrats for your civic and enjoy the formula one feel eveyday you drive !!!!

@rssh: They are Michelin Energy. Honda are a bit finicky, and I find the stock tyres Ok, so no upgrades. In any case tyre life is about 25,000 so in 3 years time ....

@kinshuk: Agreed. So far UP has not notified on HSRPs. Once it is notified you have no options!

If, and only if, Utsav get listed do I get the benefit of a subsequent discount. Unfortunately, 80% of the plates on the market do not meet the law, esp. in one or more of character size, width, and spacing.

@sgiitk: talking illegal number plates, there are many who are still using the old black plates! You can often see these ill maintained vehicles running around after 8pm - when the cops go to sleep - unless there is VIP movement!

How are your reverse sensors working? Are they really useful?
