rahul1810
I agree, but problems this early in the car, that too a Honda which is known not to have these kind of niggles is not good. The company atleast should be notified. They usually give a feedback call 2 months after sale. Notify them at that time even if the problem is solved. I will definitely make noise when they make a feedback contact. In fact once the job is done I may just e-mail them. The best way is to appreciate the dealer, and blame the company. dtandon
I'm just worried about additional damage (outside of the alternator). AFAIK - your idle RPM should be higher as the ECU should sense that the electrical load exceeds the output of the alternator.
dr_nishu
As per you're quoting that the Fault cropping & Door Sill fixing time have almost Co-incided, seems that During fitting the latter Some of the Wire of your Civic's Electrical System seems to be Grounding with its Bodyshell, that's why you're Getting the Blinking Warning Signal. Get this thoroughly Checked .. Does the Honda provides the Dedicated Couplers/Wiring System for this Illuminated Sills ?? or they've made Cuts to its Standard Electrical wiring !! dr_nishu2010-06-29 22:48:

Does the Honda provides the Dedicated Couplers/Wiring System for this Illuminated Sills ??[/quote'] i. Have you ever examined the wiring loom of a modern car? Every thing is fused. So in case of grounding some fuse should blow. It was in the old Amby/FIAT era that things were left without fuses. ii. Cutting and tapping into wires is history. Even a third party stereo installed plugs in with an adapter. There are proper looms for all factory/dealer options. This is why I always advise against market fitments, unless done professionally. Also, remember they had already spent a few hours on the car on the 17th/18th.

Yes, but with a 100A alternator unless I had switched on the lights etc. as suggested by you it will turn out enough juice at idle. Pushp Honda techs have just reached my house. dr_nishu
So in case of grounding some fuse should blow. IMO, Its the Persistent leaking of the Current from some source(maybe from some Wiring source or even from Faulty Door Sill lamp/assembly Itself) with is Irriating the Alternator, which in turns is disturbing the Battery & Battery Light again & again.. Please get all the Couplers & their Independent Thimbles/Contacts thoroughly Examined, which were Exposed earlier. I was also having same sort of Trouble in my Alto initially, with Its Fuel Pump, to be more Precise- One of its Contact of its Coupler below the Rear Seat bench was loose & everytime when somebody sits or touches the Rear bench with the Force, creates the whole of the Menace, Immediately.. sgiitk
Talked to the works manager. They claim to have found and fixed the problem. It was a bad crimp on one lead on one connector. Then they checked around and found another two or three suspicious looking crimps. So they have fixed them. Now the battery is 14.0V as it should be. I expect the car back tomorrow, after Mr Lamba has personally examined the vehicle in detail. @nishu: Very surprised that your fuse did not blow! dr_nishu
That's Really a Good News sir that you 12-lakh+ Warhorse returned back to its Healthy State. Its all the Couplers & their poor contacts which creates all the Havoc. @nishu: Very surprised that your fuse did not blow! It wasn't Grounding sir ! Instead it was just One of the loose Contact of the Coupler which Connects or Disconnects with any disturbance to the Rear Seat Bench, leading to Switching On-Off of the engine.dr_nishu2010-06-30 16:21:
sgiitk
@dr_nishu: It is more like 15L my dear friend. I also had a bad connector problem in my NE118. It was the idle cut off. The car would not start and idle intermittently, until the throttle was quite some way. We drove all over Nepal with this. On my return my mechanic found the fault in two minutes! sb-alto
Got it back ? I hope no other problem starts up with another fixing process. Also get a photo of the illuminated sil at night if possible.
sgiitk
Got it back this evening. The chap who fixed it brought it back. He found lose terminations where the loom connects through screw terminals. He found the same values on the DMM as I did. When he checked the alternator it was 14V. So the problem was in the power delivery to the battery. Very logical, when you catch it. I must say the car was returned to me in pristine condition, fully washed and cleaned. Tomorrow my Santro goes in the Hyundai, let me see!
sgiitk
Car goes in for service tomorrow. This time in Gwalior. Had a very pleasant drive crossing over 120kph on the NH2 part. Car behaved well in the moonscape leading from Bhind to Gwalior. Only scraped bottom once on the higher speed bump at the Gwalior bypass. Later found out that other cars like City, etc. also scrape on this one. So much for our road builders! Some observations: 1. The fuse in the accessory socket is only 5A. So when I connected my Car Fridge and GPS at the same time it blew after a minute or so. The load was 5A (obviously marginally higher). 2. When checked around found the fuse map missing inside the car (later found the details in the owners handbook). Also, the fellows in Kanpur seem to have removed the small tweezer used for removing the fuses when monkeying around with the charging light problem. So could not remove the fuse. So will try and sort it out tomorrow.
rssh
@sgiitk ain't your second service too early , I recall the 1st service was only in June mid . Also I think you should get an alternate connection for the fridge with better wiring and a new socket , try a good accessory shop they do these modification and it is safe too ,won't mess you warrenty as most the the wiring is via sockets and no cuts . Durango Dude
@rssh: I think till the warranty lasts do as the company says after that do it as you wish. I service my car only once a year as the running is very less and there aren't any major gripes. My car battery is outlasted the car remote button cell in four years and eight months. rssh
Well @DD even I serviced my Zen once a year and will do for the i20 after the warrenty period (will put synthetic engine oil etc) . The Zen battery lasted till Sept 07 , the car was manufactured on Feb 01 . @sgiitk so after replacing the fuse will you find and alternative for the fridge and the GPS? sgiitk
I will most probably up the fuse to 10A (which is what most cars have to start with), since I do not see any 7.5A fuses. All wires used in cars are at least rated at 10A. With cigarette lighters out of vogue, most people use the Accessory socket only for mobile charging and the like so I can see the logic of a 5A fuse. In a car in this segment one does not go chopping up just like that. Service is 1 month/1000, 3 months/3000, 6 months/5000 on a new Honda. So this is 3 months even though I have done only 1100km. Oil change is at No.3. Since the car is originally on synth, and Honda allows annual change with synth I should be getting a can of Mobil 1 0W40 this evening for use in end-November. WIth a 2+2 warranty as part of the deal I am afraid I will have to stay with six monthly servicing for four years (two additional trips to Honda), before reverting to my annual regime. Consumption is up to 11+. Will report back after I tank up today. Let me see if they have the tweezer available for sale in the local dealership. sgiitk
Second Service Report Service done in Gwalior - Heritage Honda. Odo : 1192 km Average consumption: 9.47 kpl. (improving all the time, 11.1 on last tankful). They were inundated in the rain yesterday, but did an excellent job. The SA insisted that the oil has to be changed at 3 months. On checking the job list on the coupon he realised that he was wrong. Fixed the blown ACC fuse - it was 15A. Why it blew is unknown, since the load was max.5A (the 8A Fast fuse in the 2 in 1 adapter is still intact). Replaced the tweezer used for removing and inserting fuses which was missing. Total charges: Rs.20 for fuse. sgiitk2010-08-23 13:56:

sgiitk
@DD: As it stands it has improved between the second and third service. It feels far more peppy and refined - running in as well as Mobil1. @BF: Yes, I was expecting more. Even Maruti Esteem cost me more in the first three services.
