Retrofitting an a/c and changing the shocks...?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I own a 98 model Maruti800 which completed 85000 kms... now i want to retrofit the a/c with the Sanden made one... i have a few doubts...

1)is there a need to change the radiator fan to 120 watts

2)will the sanden kit damage my engine

3)refrigerent used R2 or R1324a

4)cost of retrofitting the a/c

my front shock absorbers are also not working properly... so planning to change them

1)Maruti service station quoted 1500 for each. is that a fair price

2)is there any other aftermarket shock absorbers available for maruti 800

3)can i use shocks from alto?

1. I think the fan is more to do with heavy duty than power. Remember now it is continuously on when the AC is working.

2. Should not.

3. Depending on the compressor. R12 (not R2) was banned by the Montreal Protocol in 2003. R134 is cheaper and legal. You cannot find a R12 compressor unless it is very old stock. Do not buy R12.

4. No idea. Check around with AC specialists.

What is wrong with them? Are they leaking or is there any noise? The price is a little high. IIRC - they were 1300 each when I replaced them on my 800 last year.

Do not change them unless you are convinced there is something wrong with them. MASS usually does this just to make money.

Hi,

about the shock absorbers...

1)its not working quiet well particularly on bad / broken roads.

2) I hear a noise when running over potholes.

( will there be any sound if there is a problem with the steering column)

3)I parked it at level ground. Placed my hand above the wheel. The right wheel well allows my hand to be placed more freely than the left .That is there is more space on the right side than the left .

4)shall i change the spring along with struts?

Check if there is any bent suspension arm. If not then get the suspension checked by Maruti before coming to any conclusion. Sometimes changing suspension bushes help improve ride and to reduce noise from suspension. The rubbers must have turned hard.

Moreover do you see any uneven tyre wear on the front ? Uneven tyre wear indicates a faulty suspension. How old are the tyres ?

Any noticeable vibration in steering should be because of faulty wheel alignment or improper balancing.

At 85k if you had not changed the dampers ever, I am sure the suspension had not been overhauled either. You are way past the point where a complete suspension overhaul is necessary.
