wildon 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2010 This post is to create awareness to all who own a car and going to own a car. We often find dealers do sell old cars to unsuspecting customers without telling/passing the benefit of old cars. Lots of stories came up recently which compelled me to post here for the benefit of all. Here is an easy method from which you can find out the Manufacturing Month and Year of a Car by decoding the car's VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). 2010 Model Ford Typical FORD Car VIN has 17 Characters starting from MAJ in which 11th and 12th characters represents YEAR and MONTH respectively. If your 11th VIN Character is A then it represents Year 2010 if your 12th VIN Character is M then it represents Month JULY Rest of the MONTH Codes are follows L= JAN Y= FEB S= MAR T= APR J= MAY U= JUNE M= JULY P= AUG B= SEP R= OCT A= NOV G= DEC 2010 Model TATA Car Typical TATA Car VIN has 17 Characters starting from MAT in which 10th and 12th characters represents YEAR and MONTH respectively. wildon 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2010 Volkswagen VIN Decoding Volkswagen (VW) VIN contains 17 Characters and you can find this on the bottom left side of the windshield (Passenger Side) The 4th Character represents the Month of Production and 10th Character represents Model Year If the 10th Character is found as B then the model is 2011. If you purchase a vehicle in 2010 and found the 10th digit is B It doesn't mean that it produced in year 2011. It only shows the MODEL YEAR Rest of the MONTH Codes are follows A= JAN B= FEB C= MAR D= APR E= MAY F= JUNE G= JULY H= AUG J= SEP K= OCT L= NOV M= DEC

bluesapphire 1 Report post Posted October 31, 2010 Just checked out my Jazz which i will take delivery on 3rd november. Its chasis number is MAKGG171CAN009938. By referring to above thread, it seems mine is March manufactured Jazz, means its 7-8months old. I think it should be atleast june-july make.
wildon 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2010 ^^ Sitting idle for 7-8 is not good for any automobile. If you made your mind to go with this make sure that you check everything thoroughly. Battery/Engine/Oils/Tyres. Also make sure that you are getting a good discount for this vehicle.

It will be like *MA3XXXXXXXXXXXXXX*XX. The last two characters represent the Month and Year Month Code: A= JAN B= FEB C= MARCH D= APRIL E= MAY F= JUNE G= JULY H= AUGUST J= SEPTEMBER K = OCTOBER L= NOVEMBER M= DECEMBER YEAR CODES 5= 2005 6= 2006 7= 2007 8= 2008 9= 2009 A= 2010 B= 2011 So if you find the last characters as A7 the its a January 2007 make vehicle.
