Civic 2012 Revealed

Well, look at what we have here. Back in May, our intrepid spy shooters managed to snap off a series of images showing the next-gen European Honda Civic hiding in plain sight under an amalgam of ill-fitting current-gen bodywork. The latest set of spy photos seen here prove that Honda's little compact hatchback is progressing along rather nicely.

Unlike previous spy photos, it's clear that the car being tested is wearing its new bodywork... though it's obviously obscured as much as possible with funky matte black panels with strategically placed cutouts for doors, lights and glass. In any case, we can see a clear hatchback body design, as you would expect for the European market, along with an overtly wedge-like profile.

We have no way of knowing what's powering this vehicle at the moment, but previous reports suggest our European friends will get a typical choice of gasoline and diesel four cylinder engines along with a possible hybrid. See for yourself in our high-res image gallery below.

From the pics, It looks more like Grown up ANHC rather than evolved Current Civic.

& Design Evolution is Very Much on its Relative Size, like on the lines of New Polo & Recently unveiled New Jetta.

Looks like a Batmobile to me. Definitely futuristic. Good to see Honda guys doing just as they have done in the past, revamping and introducing at the right time. The current Civic definitly needed a BIG makeover after being here for a long time (ofcourse , the menial changes of lights, etc). Looks like a ready-to-sprint car, rather than a Luxury car.

Don't you think the back is a bit to small for a civic sedan? Indian civic is supposed be a proper big sedan. So whats with the hatchback crossover?

Or can it be the new civic hatchback?

It is the Civic hatch and is for European markets , look at the European and japanese Civic style they are so different , we get the japnese one in India.

Personally prefer the sedan, specially type R in it. New Hatchback has gone too futuristic. Guess I am still old skool guy, not saying the sedan one looks old skool or something. But has something to it.

After a slew of spy shots of the European Civic hatchback being tested in Germany, the interwebs are now rife with photos of the 2012 Honda Civic sedan caught on test yesterday in the US. The Honda Civic that is sold in India is the same model that Honda retails in the Japanese market. However, the significance of the US model is that both, the Japanese and the US models are based on the same chassis, share almost the same engine options, but boast of slight differences in the design/styling department.The Civic sedan caught on test here shows hints of a design that takes heavy cues from the Honda FCX Clarity. To us Indians though, the car will appear to be an evolved version of the current generation Honda City. The new Civic looks quite similar in form to the current model, however, the front fascia has traded the curves for a sharper nose to gel with the

It seems like mere evolution than Revolution like was the case with Corolla Altis. Also it looks more like a grown up City which indeed is considered as Mini Civic. I think this time Honda's designer are pretty confused. Obviously if this is what we are seeing, was not expected from Honda.

Now to me next generation will belong to Hyundai especially in design department after seeing its new Sonata, new Verna & especially that gorgeous New Elantra.

Saw a bit (missed the early part of it) on Fifth Gear this morning. It was a Civic Hatch (as the Civic is in Europe), LHD so should not have been the UK, with a revised front end, incl. the Honda logo inset a few cm inside a transparent panel on the front (avoids branding the pedestrians in case of a collision). The reviewer was gaga about the brilliant diesel engine under the hood.  Is this 2012 or 2010-1/2 or something else?

And as the Civic was launched in 2006 in India, So the time period of a model change should end in 2011. I think we can expect it in Sept-Dec 2011(at this time of the year Honda generally launches a new model)

2012 Honda Civic caught with minimal camouflage!

For the past few weeks, the Honda Civic sedan test mules have been repeatedly caught testing in the United States. So it seems Honda decided to move their testing procedures to Dubai this time around with a hope that no would identify the mules of the 2012 Civic sedan. I have to say the car looks great from the front and yes ofcourse, it looks like a grown up City.

The rear of the car is rather disappointing and so is the overall all design. I expected better from Honda. This does not seem like a worthy successor to the current gen Civic.

I infact liked rear more than front. Front is starting to look a little too common, and given how frequently a Honda City is seen on the road, this would lose the exclusivity that Civics front alway had.

It surely is possible that the look might become mundane simply because of the success the City and Civic have seen in India. But, I think that the Civic has built a strong enough reputation to sell in huge numbers even though the look might not be to everyone's taste.

The rear somehow looks dated already. Our expectations from Honda are way too high.

Except from the New Front Grille design, this car looks nowhere near to the Evolution of the Civic, even the competitiors who've Copy-Pasted their designs have gone much ahead.

Rear looks Quite Previous Camry-like.

I think Honda is having more Formal design Approach these days.

Is this looking good or bad?

 

Honda has taken the covers off its next-generation Civic concept at the ongoing Detroit Motor Show. The concept will become the ninth generation Civic sedan when it launches later this year.

While the current Civic still looks modern and cutting edge in terms of exterior and interior styling, the new Civic concept just tweaks the design and aims to keep the car fresh for the next few years. The front of the new Civic has become more aggressive thanks to a new grille, headlamps and bumper.
