Japanese inventor makes gas and brake one pedal

04pedalsgrfx-articleinline.jpgThe

interface between human and machine are often as much art as they are

science. A prime example is the way automobiles are controlled, in

particular acceleration and braking. While nearly all vehicles over the

last several decades have used a pair of adjacent foot pedals to manage

those operations (with a shrinking proportion using a third for manual

clutches), a third setup hasn't gained any traction in the marketplace.

As both Audi and Toyota

can attest, this arrangement is less than ideal for many drivers. In an

emergency situation, when you can't even see the pedals, it's all too

easy to hit the throttle when you meant to lay on the brake.

Japanese inventor Masuyuki Naruse has developed a single pedal solution

that should eliminate the possibility of misapplication. Naruse's system

consists of an accelerator operated by rotating the right foot

clockwise while the brakes are operated by pushing down in the

traditional manner. While the idea of a single pedal solution is

certainly appealing, the side press for acceleration seems like it could

be problematic from an ergonomic standpoint

What if your foot slips during rains ?

Foot is not like hands that you can manage different pressures as required. Its not like hand fingers. So chances of mish*tting is more and your foot will swell like hell after a city drive in India.

Disaster I say

I would this is a disaster as well.

This doesn't make any real sense. So lifting your foot from accelerator to brake is to much of a effort? Think would like my conventional brake and accelerator pedals with a manual :)

Here is another whacky invention from my side. Make the brake and accelerator the same one. When you press it brakes and when you lift your it accelerates. So when you lift your foot completely its full throttle. hmmm.... disaster again but would work better than this cause when you see a change of environment around you, you tend to press or hold on to things. Say when you on a scary ride you hold on tighter same way you press hard in an emergency. And since the pedal is the same one response time is better? may be.

My advice

Get an Auto 'Box

Keep one foot on brake and one on throttle.

Forget accidents.

smiley3.gif   I am not really a AT guy but I thought you only use one leg when driving a AT. Or is this another one of those car jokes that bounced off my head. smiley1.gif

Then How the car'll move ??

IMO, Accelerator Pedal & Brake Pedal are Antagonist to each other.

Either of them is needed at Once only
