SCOOP : After Polo,-- is it FIGO 1.6 on cards.??

Ford Figo 1.6 Spied

Ford_Figo_1.6.jpg

The Ford Figo is in the market since almost 6 months now and

surprisingly Team BHP has spied a Figo test mule doing rounds near

Chennai. Escorting this test mule was the Europe spec Ford Fiesta hatch.

Its still not clear whether Ford was testing the Figo or the Fiesta but

a new tail light cluster was seen on Figo.

We reckon that Ford is testing the 1.6 engine on the Figo. The

current Figo Petrol is not a performance car and the 1.6 engine is

basically for the enthusiasts. If this is the case, expect the 1.6 Figo

to be considerably more affordable than the 1.6 Polo. Keep watching for

more.

Forget about that, for us enthusiasts, a 1.6 Figo with perfect ride and handling and decent interiors at a lower price will do. The Polo 1.6 will get serious competition here if Ford decide to bring the Figo 1.6S soon.

It makes more sense to go for the 1.6 rather than the 1.4 because they are already manufacturing the same for the Fiesta.

Adding another engine to the lineup is simply going to increase costs and we all know that a more powerful engine will not do very big numbers and is mostly for the enthusiasts.

Figo 1.6 would be titanium would bring it terrible close to Fiesta ' date=' Ford wouldn't take that risk. [/quote']

I disagree dude..

VW Polo 1.6 is just 35k expensive over its 1.2l Highline version.

With all the features & mods included -Expect Maximum to Maximum 50k price premium over the 1.2l TITANIUM version.

So, don't be Surprised guys if Ford India will launch another VFM monster, i.e; Figo 1.6 Petrol at Rs.4.99 lacs(50k expensive w.r.t 4.49 lacs for top-end 1.2 petrol)

I completely agree with you Dr. Nishu.

As is very apparent from the pricing of figo itself, I would not get surprised if Ford do it again, and introduce the fully loaded figo 1.6 at around 5l.

The engine is already being produced by Ford here in Chennai, and just plonking it under Figo's hood would not be more than a plug-and-play operation.

So, Ford, bring it on..!!!

Since the engine costs are same a simple price difference between Figo 1.4 and Fiesta 1.4 TDCi will tell us where the price of Figo 1.6 will be

Not that simple , the Diesel outsells Petrol in Fiesta ( not sure though haven't seen the sales figure but in mumbai diesel sells more)

so my guess is Ford wouldn't have expanded the manufacturing line of 1.6 engine since Fiesta is the only car using it. It they want to start produce more engines then add marginal cost will be added , this means the cost of the engines for Fiesta would also increase. Plus Ford would also have to pay for overtime and ramping up its component providers to do the same( << marginal cost goes up here also)

The best thing ford can do to keep cost down is Overhaul the 1.3 ford Ikon Rocam engine and make it 1.4 , this can be used for the fiesta hatch also.

this is just my  thought .

What are you saying dude !!

ROCAM series of engines are totally Outdated & they're Just a Conventional Petrol engine of 90s working on a 2-Valve/cylinder & ROller Bearings-based SOHC pattern CAMshaft(hence the Name-ROCAM) & these are phased out by Ford almost every where Globally, due to their Non-Compliance with Emissions also.

Whereas their Mazda-shared DURATEC petrol Technology is Sophisticated, Cleaner & Efficient & uses Multiple Valvetrain Options(2/cyl & 4/cyl) with DOHC configurations & Ford is also using it Worldwide, even its 1.2l version is Localised for India too.

So Overall costs for DURATEC will be much lesser & hence more Feasible option. & Achieveing 1.4 or 1.6l configuration is just a Bore & Stroke alteration job & is not Much a Cost consuming.

well but they still would have to speed up the engine manufacturing.

i have my doubts that a 1.6 would cost less than = 5 lakh , Polo was suppose to have a 1.6 unit but for sake of economics and global warming they came up with the puny 1.2 .

1.6 in Figo would mean , bigger tyres , larger disc , stiffer suspension but i maybe wrong . Lets see , has ford announced any new launches ?
