praji.ooo 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2010 Is there any changes done in gearbox and gear ratios(including final drive ratio) for petrol and diesel variants of the same model (eg:swift vxi and swift vdi). If yes why? What other changes are done?
rssh 59 Report post Posted August 28, 2010 Well the only difference I can say is that then diesel need more solid transmission coz the torque produced in huge compared to same cubic capacity petrol counter part but in high performance vehicles it need to be the stiffest gears . Regarding the gear ratios it all depends on the engine, vehicle type ,for what the vehicle is designed for etc , for both petrol and diesels.
sgiitk 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2010 Normally it is not economical to have different boxes for Petrol and Diesel versions. However, the final drive ratio is often 'taller' in diesels.
dr_nishu 198 Report post Posted August 29, 2010 I agree with Sg sir exactly. The Diesel engined car features Relatively Taller Gear Ratios, as the Prominent Driving force in the Diesel engines is the Engine Torque as compared to Petrol engined cars, where Engine Rpm dominates over the Actual Peak torque for Speeds.
