Probably a Jazz hybrid for Rs.17 lakhs, if its launched in India.

Totally an Irrelevant option for India.

@mods: IMO, this thread demands International Scene section, if needed please move it there..

1) The Honda Jazz is a car manufactured and sold in India.

2) There is a possibility of the Hybrid coming to India, despite the odds.

That is why I posted in this section. But if deemed necessary, please do the necessary.

Rs.17 lakhs is a probable price if it'll come here as CBU like Civic Hybrid,

& it doesn't matters much as it's currently manufactured here as Hybrid version doesn't means a Plug-In Hybrid powerplant in an Ordinary(current Petrol version's) Bodyshell/Mechanicals.

Making a car Hybrid needs Exhaustive changes from Body Contours(for Aerodynamics) to Transmission, Axle, Bearings, etc & that's why Honda have opted for Civic Hybrid as CBU back than doing Plug-In job..

And Even today Jazz is manufactured here but its Localisation content even today is low,i.e: below 50%.

You seem to be confusing hybrids & plug-ins. Hybrids just use a battery to store the kinetic energy using regen when breaking - and then use a electric motor to convert that stored energy back to motion.

Plug-ins have the ability to charge that battery using grid power. Like the Volt.

Currently Prius is the only hybrid with a special external body - all others have the same body as gasoline cars - just that the engine & transmission is replaced by a hybrid engine, transmission, battery & motor. Like civic, camry, altima etc.

But your conclusion is right. Since this engine & transmission will be imported (very small numbers) it would be a > 50% imported car.

BTW, looks like Jazz is about 7 lacs. Here the Fit is sold for about the same price $15K - $17K. It is the costliest car in its segment ...

Don't forget the Nissan Leaf! A truly all electric car but for hybrids, it is the Prius and maybe the Insight too?

Didn't mention Leaf - since it is not a hybrid.

Insight is indeed a totally new design and comes only only as a hybrid.

Oh no !

You've gone another way man..

From Plug-In, I meant to 'Installing or Fitting an Simple Hybrid Powerplant' in the Stock/Ordinary Car here only, not the 'Plug-In Type Hybrids', which are totally a different thing here.

@Aditi: If is is in the 10-11L bracket (tops) then I will be one of the first in the queue. An unstated reason - it will also include an AT!

So whats the estimated price tag we are looking at ? your opinions
