2011 Skoda Superb 1.6 TDI

Recommended Posts

Skoda Superb, which received a new diesel powerplant in the form of a 1.6-litre TDI CR engine, was recently launched in the UK and European markets replacing the 1.9-litre TDI PD variant. And now, with the new Skoda doing its test rounds near Pune, we are hoping the Indian launch is not too far away. The new Skoda Superb 1.6 TDI will churn out 105 bhp of max power and 250 Nm of max torque between 1500 and 2500 rpm which should be enough to pull the car in spite of the lesser displacement of the engine. It will come with a five speed gear box, improved fuel efficiency of 20 kms to a litre, while emitting 130 grams of CO2 per Km.  Do these figures sound familiar to you? Yes, this 1.6-litre 105hp diesel powerplant is the same mill that VW is currently importing for the Vento sedan. The engine meets the Euro V emission standards, thus making it the most frugal and eco- friendly diesel unit in the Superb range. The Skoda Superb 1.6 TDI CR, is expected to launch in India by December 2010- January 2011 and the price tag is believed to be around the Rs. 18 lakhs mark. This engine will make for the cheapest variant in the Superb line-up and has the potential of being a hot favorite amongst fleet operators.(Source:Motoroids)

Performance and fuel efficiency will definitely be inferior compared to the Vento, which is two whole segments down. Are Skoda trying out a Corporate/Executive version of the Superb by any chance? The 1.6L Diesel makes more sense in the Laura than the Superb. Not sure if the Superb can manage with just 105bhp.

So Skoda will also the Toyota opted Engine downsizing trend, as they've done with Altis Diesel !

So, In near future we'll many Alto Owners racing with Corolla & Superb, etc. smiley36.gif

But as noted from the video, How it can be ruled out that that's an 1.6l TDi engine powered Superb, as its having no outside badging/Styling elements or else to differentiate.
