Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am Ajay from Bangalore and i am looking for a best
choice between

Ford Figo 1.4 Duratorq Diesel ZXI and I20 MAGNA for 6L Budget(on Rd
Bangalore) both of these car having same budget. My requirements are as
below:

       --> Daily 20 to 25km travelling

--> Easy handling in Heavy traffic( too much of gear
changing can be avoided)

--> Decent legroom for 2 to 3 ppl at Rear seats

--> This is my first car so i am not aware of ASS and
Maintenance cost

--> Figo owners say that Figo will put Rear power windows
soon is that true?? bcz its very much

          needed for me

--> Decent Milege around 12 to 15 to with AC ON.

-->   Blue tooth connectivity will be useful for attending
calls while driving

so i need help and suggestions of Figo and I 20 owners to choose the
best one for me.

let me know if any one wants more info.

Thanks smiley-cool.gif

If you want a diesel hatch, Figo is the best bet in terms of value for money. If you can go for the Titanium TDCi then do not look further.

But for a non ABS/Airbag equipped car, i20 is the better in terms of quality, performance and service cost. Fuel efficiency is more or less same. If budget does not permit the Figo titanium, the go for the i20.

Also take a look at Volkswagen Polo 1.2TDi Comfortline @6L. Service and spares are not as cheap as that of Figo or i20 but overall quality is superb. TD it if you like

Most of your requirements and your desires show that you are tilting towards the Figo. It has bluetooth, desired mileage(15-20Km/l), great handling, decent legroom and great build quality.

i20 on the other hand offers one of the best A.S.S(Ford isnt bad either), a bigger and better looking car and you get to enjoy a petrol.

20-25kms of running in a day is not enough to justify the extra price you will be paying for a diesel.

I recommend you stick to a petrol. The 1.2Kappa in i20 is a decent engine. Figo's petrol engine is rather weak but if its city driving it should not bother you much. Besides these two options there is also Micra, Swift and Punto for you to look at. They all fit your budget. I say pick a petrol from Micra and i20. I would suggest Polo but the 3-5 month wait is ridiculous.

Thanks for the info :) well the Figo diesel mileage is not that good as i20 so i am not convinced much also the rear power windows is NA in Figo even at the top end!! which is little -ve i am feeling at least from the safety point i feel it should be present.

I took TD of Polo its good car i loved the looks but rear legroom my parents didnt likesmiley18.gif also i am worried about ASS of VW !!

is there any one who has i20 Magna 1.2 Petrol version?? i would like to know the performance so far? Pl share your experience of ownership.

Thanks,

AJ

See, for your running both petrol and diesel can be applicable. Yes, diesels are meant for higher daily mileages but 20-25km is not that bad. At least your car wont be sitting in the garage idle for a long time. So a diesel wont be a bad idea. Plus, once you buy a diesel, your running cost is lowered to a lot and the resale value of your car will be higher than any petrol. So stick to diesel. It is a more practical buy these days and price difference is not too much.

i20 diesel has 90bhp and performance is better than petrol counterpart. Figo petrol is worthless. You are right about VW polo.

Nowadays spending near about 8-9K can buy you a decent stereo with USB bluetooth and more. So no need to worry about those. Go for the i20 diesel with eyes closed.

@SB i20 diesel may be out of his budget(6 lacs). He will be spending 50-75 thousand extra for a diesel car and it just doesnt seem enough to justify the running. Its hardly 600-700 kms a month.

i20 Magna in B'lore is 6.20L. Now when he has shortlisted these two, he must have considered the affording ability part.

Nowadays maintenance costs for a diesel are not sky high. So a diesel once bought will provide savings with running cost, better FE and more resale value.

I agree that the maintainence will only be slightly higher but the premium price paid, according to me would not be worth it if the running is that low. That would be justified only if the buyer plans to keep the car for a very long period i.e. more than 5 years.

EDIT: As i said, the diesel(on road) will be out of budget. Ajju for your running i strongly recommend you stick to a petrol. i20 Magna Petrol fits your budget and is a great car.

Besides i20 check out Micra or Polo in petrol.

@ajju;

Go for Figo 1.4 Titanium..

Its Interiors are Good, Comfortable with adequate legroom & Heaadroom.

Plus its engine is very much driveable in City Trafficky conditions, courtesy its engine with almost No-Turbo lag.

Hi Any idea about Figo Diesel Mileage ?

I have been using a FIGO from May 2010. I get a highway mileage of 17-18 and a city mileage of around 12-13.

Have driven 14k kms and had no issues with the car till date. Only suggestion is to make sure that your dealer is good. I have had issues with the dealers in Chennai.

Is this with 100% AC.? I know Figo owners who get better efficiency. 20+ on highways is easily achievable.

I use A/C 50% of the travel time. I do very high speeds on the highway. I do speeds of 150+... But somehow, I feel that 20+ is not achievable by me even if I reduce my speeds.

figo diesel will be a better choice for you as:

1) Though your daily running doesn't justify buying a diesel car, but since both the cars in your shortlist are costing the same , why not buy diesel and enjoy the benefits of low-running costs.

i20 will not give more than 12kmpl in city with AC on, and in B'glore traffic, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

2) As also said by other members above, the maintenance of today's diesel cars are not much, and are at par with petrols.

In Bangalore traffic the more driveable car wins: I'd vote for the Figo as it more driveable than the i20 which though has more power and much more turbo lag.

@A Sethi: People with low running also are going in for diesels mainly coz of better torque than the 1.2 petrol they have to contend with and also better mileage.

I'd say what would suit Ajju would be a Swift/Ritz or i10 petrol. But in Bangalore traffic he will not get that great a mileage.

Got the latest Info about Ford 1.4 TDCi diesel engine yesterday:

An Expert Workshop Owner in Our City have explained everything about the Life-Span & Reliability of the Ford India's most popular 1.4 TDCi diesel engine to me yesterday.

He said,"Its Maximum life-span is 1.3-1.5 lacs kms" of Regular driving, which is Nearly equal to the 'Tata Indica's 1405cc Naturally Aspirated or Turbo diesel engine'

Much worrying is that its Overhaul, Labour & Spare parts costs are almost 3 times as that of the latter. smiley6.gif
