Recommended Posts

The All new Mahindra Thar will be launched on the 21st of December 2010 in Bombay. This ends the long wait that 4x4 aficionados, Mahindra loyalists and Jeep lovers in general have been waiting for.

The Thar, first introduced to the Public in the Indian Auto Expo earlier this year, will feature two engine options, a CRDe and a regular MDi version. It has already found a number of fans around the world in markets such as Italy and South Africa where it was launched a few months ago, and has equally captured the hearts of thousand of members on popular automotive forums in India.

In the price list, Thar DI 4X2 BS4 is missing.

It might not be launched in this version

or it's price might be around 5.6 L Ex-S.

There is also a rumour that it might be launched

both in TDi & CRDe versions.

2 days left to get full info.

Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the Thar, an all-new off-roader that retains the looks of the Mahindra MM540 but comes with a new chassis and loads of features. The MM540 is popular among city-dwellers as well as the army and paramilitary forces.

Available in DI and CRDe versions, the company hopes to target a new lifestyle segment with the Thar and will customise the vehicle for buyers ready to pay more.

While the CRDe 4x4 BSIV variant is priced at Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the DI 4X2 variant is priced at Rs 4.47 lakh (ex-showroom, Jaipur).

The Thar will be launched in New Delhi, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Mangalore and Jaipur by end of December, and all over the country in January. Based on a chassis that is a mix of the Bolero and the Scorpio, the Thar offers 105bhp.

While the CRDe variant will be built at Mahindra

Mahindra Thar prices revealed:

Mahindra Thar DI 4X2 BS3 Rs. 4' date='42,000/-

Mahindra Thar DI 4X4 BS3 Rs. 4,90,590/-

Mahindra Thar DI 4X4 BS4 Rs. 6,17,933/-

(all prices ex-showroom, Hyderabad)

[/quote']

So the Motorbeam price scoop is right.

5.99L Ex-showroom for Delhi for the highest variant 4X4 CRDe -BS4 for metros.

4.47L Ex-showroom for Jaipur for the lowest variant 4X2 DI -for BS3 for rest of the country.

I consider this pricing good. It is tempting.

NO A/C in any version of Thar. Had a chance to drive the CRDe variant at the test track at Mahindra Kandivli plant, loved the vehicle, very refined engine, gearshift a tad hard though..good package overall

Is there a possibility that there might be a hard top version released some time in the future?

There are rumours about a hardtop version being released with AC. However if sources are to be believed, customizing option contain hardtop and AC can be fitted from the dealer. If dealer fits the AC Mahindra will take care of it.

Do confirm this information as I have also read it on some forum

I donno whats the purpose of A.C when having freeflow air technology? lols, i.e environmental air. I would like to choose the one for the off-roading.

smiley31.gif But our indian real estate peoples are arleady occupying every off-roads, side roads, top roads blah blah. haha. Its the border oppurtunity for us if we wana enjoy atleast some gravel roading before they construct the buildings.

@Rahul, I think, M7M itself would fit AC if we want and they have said, they are open to many kind of customization job, may be like DELL in PC world.

@Cy,

Is there a possiblity of getting Front facing 4/5 seater as shown in AE?

Does this car means Gypsy RIP?

It's all set for delivery, and the metros (BS IV) can also enjoy the Thar Mdi if the feel the CRde is priced too much.

The prices Ex-Showroom B'lore are:

Thar CRDe 4X4 BSIV - 7,26,615 INR

Thar Mdi 4X2 BS III - 5,19,412 INR

Thar Mdi 4X4 BS IV - 5,76,002 INR

And about the A/C and the hard top, may be we will have to wait, and for the current models an A/C can be fitted after market, but please do not rely on the M&M Customization.

An hard core off roader might not like an A/C though, because of the Wind in the hair, removable soft top which comes with the Thar.

There is always an option of getting a Front facing rear seat, but do not expect it as a OE!!

I was in Jeep Wrangler the other day. Interior was quiet nicer than what I remember about Mahindra interiors. If only Mahindra can improve interior quality of their Jeep, It can give the Jeep Wrangler a run for the money..
