Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata's dream is to see cars run on water and he has invested USD 15 million in a start-up firm supporting research in the field.

A professor in the famed Massechusetts Institute of Technology in the US has found a way to split water directly into hydrogen and oxygen & Ratan Tata has given him US$ 15 million to continue his research and TATA has also promised the professor to let the latter own the technology. It seems any kind of water -- toilet water, rain water or sea water -- can be used for this purpose.

Ratan Tata dreams of cars running on water: Scientist

BANGALORE: Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata's dream is to see cars run on water and he has invested USD 15 million in a start-up firm supporting research in the field' date=' an eminent scientist said today.

Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister Prof C N R Rao said one of his close friends and a professor in the famed Massechusetts Institute of Technology in the US has found a way to split water directly into hydrogen and oxygen.

" Ratan Tata has given him (the Professor) 15 million (US) dollars so that he (Tata) can own that company when it comes up," Prof Rao said.

"He (Tata) wants to invest in a company which will split water directly into hydrogen and oxygen," Rao said, adding, when any kind of water -- toilet water, rain water or sea water -- can split to hydrogen and oxygen, then these components can be used for energy.

"And a dream of Ratan Tata is eventually cars will be run on water. My dream is also that," he said, referring to a recent conversation he had with the Tata Group Chairman.

I want to share a fact here. One of our Indian scientist from the south had successfully demonstrated Fischer-Tropsch (FT) reaction to produce petrol from air and water. But due to lack of sufficient funds and lack of support from the government side, he could not take it to a higher level. The British Govt. siezed this opportunity and took that guy away from India to UK. Acc. to the team of researchers, this could bring the price of petrol to one-fifth of what it is right now! And even lower!

Lets see when this technique is practiced!

That the problem with the Indian bureaucratic, who never think of the nation's development except their own pocket, responsible in guiding the nation forward.

Opportunity never comes for the second time. As per my view, A national scientist pool needs to established with optimistic people to look into such matters of national importance.

The Indian Government is perhaps the most passive government in the world. If a guy representing our country demonstrates a project to produce petrol from air or water, they should give some financial or atleast moral support to him to develop a R&D for the project.

Shame on our democarcy. smiley7.gif

First let Tata comes out with its existing technologies faster, then can think about "Yet to come out technology".

Where are their Air Cars, Hybrid or e cars, CRDI Nano?

Anyways congrats to Ratan Tata to initiate and wish TM makes his dream turn true soon.

Nice move by Tata to keep a tab on future alternate source of energy.

This shows how far Tatas can think and how much advance they are in thinking and planning for their future.

It seems Tata is making them ready with all possible alternate energy sources (Air, Water, Hybrid, Electric etc...).

I am rather skeptical of something like this. Also the fact that the govt. did not support this experiment even though it is nothing short of a miracle is hard to believe.

As far as Mr.Tata's contritbutions go: Anothe great deed by a great man. Now only if Tata Motors could get its own cars to run properly on Petrol/Diesel without sourcing technology from others.

Many people have experimented overseas but their efforts gone in vain, most of them were fakes and a few went missing after announcing their discoveries, may be its the fuel companies around the world who can't stand any discovery of such a technology. If you guys are interested, pls. google on Running Car on Water and you will find ample of news which gives a hint that major fuel giants don't want such a technology to come out for their gains.

Let's not forget, Tata was the 1st company in India to make the Tata Sierra completely from the parts made in India, this was indeed a milestone, but let Tata also learn to bring in good designs apart from having the trademark designs for all it's car's..
