SX4 Diesel: Now launched

Recommended Posts

@Durango Dude

I agree with you.

SX4 has

- best mile munching ability,

- most spacious cabin in it's class also among all other Maruti sedans ever.

- best road handling abilities mainly on highways.

- high ground clearance best suited for Indian road conditions.

- Fantastic road presence due to it's detailing and styling and big tires which makes SX4 look much bigger than any other sedan in it's class. Even Altis look smaller if they put side by side.

Now with Diesel option it will only add advantage to Maruti to attract more corporate clients, fleet operators as well as individual car buyers who are looking for a decent diesel sedan.

Also by keeping same engine as of Swift and Swift Dzire Maruti can take more discounts from Fiat to get the 1.3L DDiS engine from Fiat.

True, the SX4 will anyday have an advantage over the Fiesta. Its only a 70 bhp engine but fun to drive as well. SX4 will have a more powerful engine and a larger cabin space. Will have an advantage over the Fiesta.. but if asked to choose between a Fiesta and an SX4 diesel, I'll choose the Fiesta for sure smiley1.gif

models respectively. Apart from the VDi

and ZDi variants, the SX4 will also be

Not only is it 50k lesser it also has more features like base variant is fitted with stereo, further saving of 20k and the high end variant has steering remote etc. I will say one thing, with only Petrol and CNG Maruti was able to fend off Verna and Vento, with diesel it is surely going to blow them away!

Linea Prices

Active:7.4 lakhs

Emotion Pack:8.7 lakhs

Verna Prices

7.9-8.6 lakhs

Fiesta Prices

7.37-8.51 lakhs

Vento

8.1-9.17 lakhs

Honda City(Petrol)

8.15 lakhs-9.05 lakhs

Fiesta and Verna are at the end of the life cycle and would most likely be costlier than what they already cost. So great pricing by Maruti. I expect 3500 units a month for SX4 atleast.

Super Turbo chargers:

Both turbochargers and superchargers are called forced induction systems. They compress the air flowing into the engine-. The advantage of compressing the air is that it lets the engine stuff more air into a cylinder. More air means that more fuel can be stuffed in, too, so you get more power from each explosion in each cylinder. A turbo/supercharged engine produces more power overall than the same engine without the charging.-

The typical boost provided by either a turbocharger or a supercharger is 6 to 8 pounds per square inch (psi). Since normal atmospheric pressure is 14.7 psi at sea level, you can see that you are getting about 50-percent more air into the engine. Therefore, you would expect to get 50-percent more power. It's not perfectly efficient, though, so you might get a 30-percent to 40-percent improvement instead.

I just talked to a dealer about SX4 Diesel. already there is a 3 weeks waiting period. 4 weeks for white, silver and black colours. What we have been saying all along as been proven. Another Maruti heads for the long wait!

1.24 L engine for a 9-10 Lakhs car . Other car with same mistake is Corolla altis.

Also this car has the same look of swift and desire. You don't get a premium look on road.

Not exactly like that.

Earlier Maruti Suzuki have made Fiat's 1.3l(1242cc) Multijet engine most driveable across all the cars featuring that same engine & Now this legacy is carried up further in SX4 Diesel which features the same engine but with different Power figures due to use of Variable Geometry Turbo(Super Turbo DDiS in Maruti's language), differently tweaked ECU & Gear Ratios to manage it, resulting in Superb Petrol-like Performance(0-100kmph in <13 secs), Refinement & Driveability from a small 1242cc diesel engine & that's too without Noticeable Turbo-lag.

Drive it to know it..

That I really do agree. SX4 doesn't feel like a premium car. Even though features to features comparison, it's pretty good. It's looks are old (kind of like Esteem). It doesn't have "STATUS" and "ASPIRATIONAL VALUE" as ANHC/Vento/Linea.

It's high time Maruti brings in a facelift on this one and make it more sporty rather than boxy.

Disclaimer : This is coming from a 2011 ANHC owner, so take it with pinch of salt!

SX4 bookings sail past 5000. Goes double the Maruti estimate

Its been less than a month since the Maruti Suzuki diesel was announced and prior to the launch questions were raised on how the SX4 could compete with powerful offerings that will occupy this segment in the next few months.

But things have turned out to be profitable for Maruti Suzuki who has registered over 5,000 bookings for the diesel model.

Shashank Srivastava, Chief General Manager, Marketing, Maruti Suzuki India -

We have received an overwhelming response for the SX4 diesel. Our target was 2,000 units per month but with this kind of response we will have to work harder to cater to the demand.

The triumph of the SX4 diesel prompts the question

Downsize the 1.3 MJD to some 1 liter and plonk it into all it's hatch's starting from A-Star to Wagon R, see how they sell. With almost a Rs. 20 difference in price of diesel and petrol per litre, Govt. of India is unleashing a diesel mania.

@DD: very pragmatic point.

OT: We may see some variation in price difference of petrol & diesel in near future. Due to Tsunami Japan's economy may take a temporary hit and crude oil price may come down a bit. Accordingly, some relief in Petrol price is possible.

Otherwise, until the implementation of UID (which will make direct cash transfer to BPL people possible), price difference between petrol & diesel will only increase with time.

One can not judge a car by engine capacity alone. Although SX-4 has got 1.3 L engine, this VGT engine delivers healthy 90HP. There are many factors that contribute to engine performance. Engine capacity is one of them but not the only parameters. Others such as turbocharging , FGT, VGT, peak power output, torque output, power curve, cylinder no. & configuration etc.

So just because Nano has 1.2 L it does not mean that Sx-4 should have a bigger capacity engine. Nano 1.2L may not have turbocharging to cut the cost. Or it may be tuned for offering better efficiency at the cost of performance. Sx-4 engine is very capable and good enough for the car. Only Vento has a better engine in the segment.   itssanguine2011-03-20 04:39:49
