Volkman11
Charges only when the engine is running!
sgiitk
You can use a small bench charger, with proper precautions.
joe-ker
If u are starting the car and leaving it idling without using any electrical loads like lights or stereo, then the alternator will charge the battery. but it will take some time to charge as starting itself is very heavy load on the battery and that drain needs to be replenished before there can be any net charging. Its always advisable not to go for repeated startings and to keep the engine running for sometime after each starting.
anjan_c2007
In cars fitted with alternators it needs to run at least 7 to 8 kms to get the battery charged to acceptable levels. The self starter drains a battery the maximum and if one is interested in charging the engine should not be switched off at red signals. I a car is not run regularly, a home battery charger can be kept to augment the charging process and keep the battery fit.
dr_nishu
Yes battery always starts charging when the engine comes into life i.e: when it starts. But it doesn't charges weak battery upto much extent if the engine is kept at Idle only. So Rather than wasting precious fossil fuels for such use, Charge the battery seprately with dedicated electricity operated 12V charger generating sufficient amperes to charge it effectively.
