Hyundai still edging Tata in the domestic sales market with 32,629 units compared to 31,909 units from Tata. Although the way things are going Tata will permanently overtake Hyundai soon. Its a shame really since their products are extremely inferior.

  • The last time C segment was this close was when SX4 was just launched and for a couple of months it beat City. City-3668 Vento-3548 SX4-3534. Very interesting to see these nos. over the next 6 months when Ford and Hyundai join the fight.
  • Swift Sales are a little down(by 1000 units). Diversion of engines to SX4?
  • Fabia has now got a settled look, at around 1500 units a month.
  • Micra is selling in great nos. 2030 is a great no. considering brand, competition and dealership network.
  • 25 Kizashis is not a bad no. for Maruti.
  • 2786 Etios. Toyota working to clear the waiting period fast. Seeing quite a few of them on road.
  • VW has a hike in production. Polo+Vento is 6800. Nos. higher than ever. Goes above Honda, would be interesting to see this no. post brio launch.

-Alto again is Ruling the Hearts of Indians & is on the way of becoming the Splendor of the cars in the World.

-In a month of 28 days & within just a week of its Diesel version's launch, SX4 crossed the 3500 mark. I'm sure it'll touch 5k in the coming months.

-Beat & Micra are also going strong & the latter are more often seen on Roads now. However Beat deserves more better sales figures.

-HM's Ambassador alone is clocking much better nos than that of entire Mitsubishi range.

So here is the list of top 10 best sellers in Indian market

1. Maruti Alto : 33015

2. Hyundai i10 : 15,105

3. Maruti WagonR : 14131

4. Maruti Swift : 10936

5. TATA Indica : 10044

6. Maruti Swift Dzire : 9490

7. TATA Indigo : 8966

8. TATA Nano : 8262

9. Hyundai Santro : 8,070

10. Ford Figo : 7,883

With such fluctuation nos for Swift + Dezire, I'm sure, Maruti is playing around with the sales to black market them and to boost sales of other products like the Ritz.

I call this ARTIFICIAL INFLATION.

Good to see Nano back to form and into top 10.

My observations:

1. Honda City: City under attack from Vento & SX-4. However Honda may have hold back some City due to faulty part issue. More clear picture will emerge next month and we can then conclude whether King is about to loose its crown or not.

SX-4 sell figure is undoubtedly boosted by diesel engine. Vento is also more diesel oriented. So as far as petrol engine goes City seems to be the better bet.

Superb 255 : Accord 242. May be new face-lift will be more helpful next month. All other Honda products have cut sorry figure.

2. Volkswagen:

Despite long waiting period & not-so-friendly dealer attitude, VW is marching along. However its early days of Polo & Vento. Actual ownership review/cost will come into picture after a year only. It will be interesting to see if VW can sustain the steam in long run.

3. Nissan Micra: It reminds me of Octavia in early part of last decade. A no-nonsense product selling on its merit alone despite very very weak dealer support. In long run Micra may overcome Beat and may be Ritz as well.

4. Swift:

It is surprising that Swift is clocking 10k figure despite being at the fag end of life cycle and new Swift waiting in the wing. Two things may help sale figure:

    a. New Swift (NS) is not very much different visually and many people consider that it is not worth waiting for another six month for NS.

   b. Waiting period of Swift: Many people may consider that NS will also attract a long waiting period and so it is better to grab hold of present Swift. itssanguine2011-03-02 06:10:55

I believe that these are delivery figures, not just leaving showroom? In that case, Kizashi is very decent. I believe in next 3-4 months, it will continue to do good numbers. Figures after that will be interesting.

SX4 sales does include Diesel sales (there were units ready for Delivery). I think ANHC is in for tough fight from MSIL and VW. Vento is improving delivery wise.

All in all Mid-Size Sedan segment will see immense competition, this can only be good for the consumers.

All figures are delivery figure from manufacturer to dealer.

Kizashi & Aria: It is difficult to tell whether they have succeeded or failed. Both are aspirational product for their company (MSIL & TML) and part of brand building process. Interestingly, neither company has explicitly specified sales target.

Interesting Sales figures for CITY-VENTO-SX4.after couple of months fiesta and Verna will add fuel on fire. Yesterday i took test drive of SX4 Diesel. The moment i touched the accelerator i had a feeling-If Honda city gets this engine!!!Ohh my god City will sell atleast 10k/Month.

-If Honda city gets this engine!!!Ohh my god City will sell atleast 10k/Month.

What's there in the City without the Gem of its Honda i-VTEC engine.

Neither its Interiors nor its Build quality are Satisfactory alone to make a decision.

People love Honda only due to its engine & transmission Refinement,

I'm doubtful that whether its bodyshell can support a Heavy & Viby Diesel engine or not !!

I'm suprised Chevy has not shut down the production/sales of Optra, Aveo and U-va. Especially U-va and Aveo. These three cars combined, have not crossed a 1000units in a long time now. They are outdated, and the localization percentage of the Aveo and U-va is not high hence they are expensive to maintain too. Still selling these products is like beating a dead horse.

Even though City is by far the best product in its class, the threat from the diesel heat bearing Vento and SX4 is becoming very very real. Honda has to do something or its crown jewel is very close to loosing its throne. Maybe the recently announced benifits for electric cars might persuade Honda to bring in a hybrid version. Long shot but lets see.

Chevy must stop spark also. BEAT can do the job

Why to stop a Cute, little cheeky car which is already doing Good sales numbers(considering GM brand value here) & which is a favourite city car for first time car buyers.

Also its the most Reliable chevrolet in India.

Instead its offers a good contrasting styling options to GM India hatchback range.

Further I understand VW has production capacity of 110000 units per annum at their Chakan plant where they are producing Vento, Polo and Fabia. Total of these cars in Feb'11 was 8317. The scope of increase is not much for VW unless they go for adding capacities in India.
