My All New Volkswagen Polo

Recommended Posts

@ashikawa: Nice pics of your trip. Hope you had a good time. How did you both hit it off: you and your Polo?

thanks. We really enjoyed the trip very much. Polo is fun to drive. I appreciate its smooth gearshift and comfortable seating. Though without ABS, its boasted confidence in Mahabaleshwar and Pratapgarh Ghats. Steering gives good feedback at speeds. I have driven the car below 100 kmph on mumbai and pune expressway and maintained around 2500 rpm ( Top speed is 160 and manual says 2/3rd of top speed during first 1500 kms.). It gave a respectable fuel efficiency considering its weight and proportions.ashikawa2011-04-17 10:44:52

@Ashikawa;

That's really seems to be a Cool trip as visible from the set of beautiful pics above.

Hope your Volkswagen have relished your journey further with its Surprises.

Heard that VW Polo TL features Single Windtone Horn only' date=' Is its true ??
[/quote'] Yes dr_nishu. The performance in all aspects is excellent. I am not sure about dual or single horn. But one thing is sure that it is clearly audible enough and have a distinct sound. I could hear only my horn and other skoda's( a lot of lauras and superbs) horns passing by during the trip. The horn given by all other cars passing by were even not audible. I have seen only one polo in this complete journey that too is white and a few vento's on the way. My observation is everybody including those riding RR Ghost and mercs gave a pleasant expression when looked at my car. Its a real eye candy as of now.

Rear parking sensor is a must for this car, as its sporty bodyshell left very less rear visiblity available for the driver. You can see my mileage report in the earlier post. Comments are invited.

Update on extended Warranty

A good new for all Polo seekers/ owners.

Just read on other internet forum that extended warranty is now available for both Polo and Vento. Hence called VW Cochin to confirm as the source was qutoed as a sms from VW, Cochin. He told that extended warranty is made available by company only as i enquired that isn't it a offer by your dealership alone. He further added that this is made available in this week itself. The cost is as under:

Polo (Petrol) - 7199

Polo (Diesel) - 7899

Vento (Petrol) -  10599

Vento (Diesel)  - 11199

This applicable for further 2 years with 1,00,000 kms, whichever is earlier. So now one can avail a standard + extended warranty of 2+2 years or 1,00,000 kms. whichever is earlier. However amazing to note that there is only a difference of 700 between Petrol and Diesel Polo and a difference of 600 only between Petrol and Diesel Vento.

Update on AMC for Polo Petrol

Further to my post on extended warranty yesterday. While talking to one of the VW dealers in Mumbai it was informed to me that Annual Maintainance Contract is available for Polo 1.2 Petrol for a period of 03 years / 45000kms ( each service is due 15000kms or 1 years whichever is ealier )at the cost of 19900/- it will include three annual services at the interval of 15000kms or 1 year whichever is earlier.***EDIT*** This includes oil change, oil Filter,Air Filter/ Brake shoe & pads and labour.

While enquaring about extended warranty, It was found that details are yet to reach people attending phone calls at dealership as the extended warranty programme has been announced yesterday itself.

You can see my mileage report in the earlier post. Comments are invited.

Since your Polo is new, you're getting very good FE of around 15kmpl with Hill & City driving included, reflecting your Sedate driving style.

17-18kmpl is the best FE i've heard of about Polo 1.2 petrol in strictly Plain Highways.

Regarding Extended Warranty, Surprised to see the Extended warranty for these small VWs more than Jetta's at 6.5k.

Its 1,00,000kms limit for consecutive 2 year warranty is also a limiting factor as its Initial/original 2-year Warranty covers Unlimited mileage.

& Can you confirm the charges for AMC of Diesel Polo ??

[/quote'] Yes i'm too surprised with the cost compare to Jetta. Yet to check with the dealer that whether it costs different for models(TL/CL/HL) as they have different level of equipment and price. Dealers here are too slow to react to a situation. The information yet to reach their customer care desks.

& Can you confirm the charges for AMC of Diesel Polo ??
What i know is , it is only available for petrol variant as of now. I read on another forum about a person bought it for diesel polo and then had to fight with the dealer as at the time of service dealer told him that it is sold to you by mistake. However the dealer had to respect it and he got his car serviced free of charge.

Another thing that while enquiring about AMC the lady on other side told me that without AMC 3 services will cost around 30-35k , which seems correct to me, as i heard about a Polo 1.6 got its first service for around 10k.

***EDIT***Here are the details:

Dust and Pollen filter (A/C) replacement - Rs 667.24 Oil Filter Replacement - Rs 416.24

Fuel Filter Replacement - Rs 413.05

Air Filter Replacement - Rs 714.90

Drain Plug Replacement - Rs 50.52

Gasket Replacement (Possibly filter gasket) - Rs 97.75

Coolant (topped up and the bottle given for future topups) - Rs 486.48

Windshield Washer Fluid (topped up and btoole given for future use) - Rs 196.42

Wheel Balancing Weights - Rs 720.10

Engine Oil (4 liters used + 1 liter sealed bottle given for 250 ml top up after a week) - Rs 4850.03

Labour charge - Rs 1559.66.

Total bill - Rs 10,172 source:team bhp

So i am planning to buy one soon for my car alongwith extended warranty. ashikawa2011-04-21 17:04:07

Hii ashikawa Congrats on your new car . It looks great . Can i know how is the rear leg room . how does seating the back feel . do share your valuble opinion
Thanks lakky. The seats at rear are comfortable and enough legroom. Before buying this car i owned a maruti 800 and i used to drive it pushing the driver seat all the way back reducing the rear seat legroom next to nothing. Now when i drive polo i have to sit forward as the clutch of this car travels longer than others. With most comfortable driving position rear legroom is quite enough for the rear seat. Normally people in india think about sitting capacity of the car in a different manner. IMHO cars(May it be sedan or hatchback) are meant for 4 people.

In polo 4 adults and 1 child can sit at full comfort. The transmission tunnel is quite high in this car. Hence the 5th person in middle may feel trouble due to tunnel. Though i feel that the tunnel is like backbone of the car and gives strength to its chassis. If you still want more legroom you can go for a Vento having a longer wheelbase, which fits your budget too.

After extensive follow up with both VW and my dealership finally got some concrete information on extended warranty and AMC.

For my polo 1.2 petrol

Cost of extended warranty is 7199-

&

AMC for 3 years 19900-

AMC for 4 years 34072- .

The fourth service seems to be on a higher side as it costs 14172- while the first three services costs 6630- each under AMC. Thinking of going for ex. warranty + 3 year AMC. But now sure about opting 4 year AMC.

First three services without AMC will cost between 8-10 k each for sure, so going for AMC will save the cost.

Invite all of your's valuable comments on this.

AMC for 4th Service is higher as by that time the car would've clocked 60,000kms or 4-years, that means Replacement of many essential components like Spark Plugs set(for petrols), Suspension Inserts & many more similar kind of bits/parts which gets deteriorated with time automatically.

But for One time payment, AMC for 3-years is a Reliable option.

Till then enjoy the Polo-ing.

Forgot to menton the model number rcd 510 the 6 cd changer
Contact your dealer , they can order it for you. But i think it will be very costly. Why don't you choose one from what available for indian market. I don't know much about ordering it online or from e-bay  also the reliablity of such ordered product. Again my piece of advice, if you are buying polo/ vento than better go with the approved accessories as far as electrical are concerned.

Suggest me correct tyre pressure

I am going to pune tomorrow . Will use Expressway for this tour. I want to know what tyre pressure i should maintain keeping in view summer. The recommended tyre pressure by VW is:

with 2 person+ luggage - 29 - 29

with 5 person+ luggage - 32 - 35

The manual says that if you can compromise a little comfort you can increase the recommended pressure by 3 PSI.

We will be only two persons on this tour. Last time i filled 30 in all before starting journey.

It was 41 filled by dealer at the time of delivery. smiley3.gif

Received complete details of AMC from my dealer.

Now i am confused about for which i should go(i.e. 3 year or 4 year). The Fourth year has the same features as the 2nd. But alone costs around 14k. Unable to understand the logic of this pricing. smiley25.gifashikawa2011-05-16 15:48:21

Isn't its Rear brake Shoes are tad expensive ??

I'm wondering how much these paid services cost for Polo Diesel ??

I'm expecting Rs.40,000-45,000 for its AMC of 4-years, if VW India unveils this.

Try to get gather some info on this please from your nearest VW dealer, ashikawa.

@ashikawa: I find the 4 yr AMC rather steep for a petrol hatch. My question is why pay VW upfront; I'd rather pay them as and when it's required. If they are giving you a concession by charging you 34k then just magine what it will be after 4 years it will literally become an "Airavath"(white elephant) to maintain.I haven't spent that much on my Elantra in five years of ownership. True color of the Germans will be evident only some 3 to 4 years down the line when "indian" driving conditions take its toll.
