Good looks, fuel efficient  engines , space , comfort and variety of variants at an affordable price - no wonder Ford has hit sweet spotsmiley1.gif.

Intrestingly, it is the first European manufacturer to sell more than 5,000 units of any model India and third manufacturer after Hyundai to have  model which sells month after month more than 5,000 units.

When Indians love a thing it can go on to break world records. That's specialty of the number: 1.21 billion. The Alto is the largest selling hatchback in the world and who made that happen: we Indians did. Hero Honda is the largest bike maker in the world and that's also due to the 'burgeoning' population. When we lap it up Guinness records are created.

At least the Figo has the European pedigree as compared to the Indian Chevrolet small cars upto the C segment, that are all Korean Daewoos. Ford stands by its European roots.Even in the 1930's,40's and 50's when CBU imports and later CKD imports were allowed, most of the Ford models like the Anglia, Prefect, Consul and a few others were purely of European (British) origin from their Dagenham, UK plant.

The Ford Model T and later A, V8, Custom, Deluxe and other larger cars were of the Detriot kind with an US origin.

All these were available in India.

So Ford moves on with its British roots. All the best to Ford for keeping up with the Indian market needs.

And its thumbs down to GM, who have merely badged the  Daewoo cars as Chevrolet and have just for the sake of marketing downgraded a once glorious brand, that has earlier seen some of the best American imports in India as Chevrolets.

Why is Korean sourced considered to be inferior? Look at what Hyundai and Kia are doing. Hyundai has gone far enough to release luxury models called Genesis and Equus. Though they don't have the brand recognition, the Genesis and the Equus take the E-Class and S-Class MB's for lunch in performance, handling, luxury and FE.Plus they are $5-10000 cheaper.

The Chevrolets from Korea are not designed and engineerd completely in Korea.Leave the 2005-09 models alone. They were Daewoos, evryone accepts it. But Daewoo brand is not going to be used even in S.Korea.

The models from 2009 are made, designed and engineered by a global team and they share chassis with Opel in Germany. So , they will have great handling as is any German bred car.(I'm looking at you- Skoda).

The chassis themselves are an output of GM's global team.

Chevrolet Cruze - Delta II platform shared with Opel Astra and Chevrolet Volt

Chevrolet Beat - GM Gamma II platform shared with Opel Corsa ,Buick Excelle GT and XT and upcoming Chevrolet Aveo/Sonic. Chevy uses a shortened version of the Gamma II for Beat resulting in large car like stability for the Beat.

However, the irony is that the cookie cutter cars in the world are Toyotas which are bland, cushy ,floaty rides with poor handling. Chevrolet as a volume brand, made a good move with cars like Beat/Cruze to produce cars that are quiet, comfortable but at the same time with good handling(not great like Ford and VW) similar to the formula of Honda and Nissan while Ford competes with European cars.

By the way , Daewoo is now extinct. Now, all silly jokes about rebadged Daewoos will have to stop. Chevrolet USA excels only in making big cars.pickup trucks and sport uutility vehhicles and not in small cars and hence the requirement for a global team.

If you might have known Gm's brand hierarchy, Chevrolets were sold only pan-Americana and Middle East. It was not a global brand before 2003 . Opel was GM's global brand but it wasn't able to sell well because it was a premium priced ,mainstream car with typically high German maintenance costs.

@anjaan Sir -I have to disagree with you that chevrolet are mere badge engineered zDaewoos. If  I go by your statement then all Fords are glorfied badge engineered  Mazdas - even new Mazda 2 and Ford Fiesta are identical.

I feel GM should be lauded for it efforts - it has always brought a new products but is let down poor brand image and after sales service.

The prejudice that Fords are badge engineered Mazdas is wrong. In every case, Mazdas are badge engineered Fords.

The case between Mazda and Ford is not badge engineering. Its platform sharing. The Ford Focus (2006-2011) and the Mazda 3 neither share any interior bits or body panels nor engines. They have their own different interiors, exteriors, engines, suspension bits etc. The only shared thing is the basic chassis components.

Even if they shared everything, Ford at one point of time was the majority owner of Mazda. They saved Mazda from the brink of bankruptcy.

Ford developed most of the chassis shared between Mazda and Ford because the chassis used by Fords were also shared with Volvo. Ford led the development of all platforms .Here are Wiki sources.

B3 -Used by Ford Fiesta /Mazda 2

The Ford B3 platform (for "B-class") is a subcompact automobile platform that is jointly developed by Ford Motor Company and Mazda Motor Company at centers in Europe as well as North America and Australia.

Note: There is no mention of Japan.

C1- Volvo C30,S40/Ford Focus/ Mazda3

The C platform was designed in the Ford development center at Europe Cologne, Germany, as the "C Technologies Program". It was said to be one of the largest platform programs in history at that time. Ford Focus, Volvo S40 and V50, and Mazda3 share about 60 percent of their parts and components.

All debates notwithstanding, an original American or European (they have had America and Europe specific models to suit the respective markets) Ford or Chevrolet is poles apart in brand equity, as compared to the re-badged cars.

And ragav remember these companies have a more than 100 year glorious history and you are kidding when you compare these with the Hyundais or Daewoos. A visit to any vintage and classic car rally in a metro will reveal how these cars have evolved.

Only now, the US market has accepted Hyundais, which were tagged as cheap Asian imports and suffered quality problems in the US market after the first launch of the Hyundai Pony in 1986/87.

I think I have deviated from the original thread, but since the debate is on, these clarifications are justified.

ah, if prices are same as before and it is only a feature cut. Then I would say it is another way of cost cutting by pulling out features which makes this car VFM. Sstar2011-10-10 10:17:09

Its a Win-Win situation for TITANIUM seekers as, its better equipped than before as Now it comes with Front Fog-lamps also.

EXi is also better loaded with Keyless entry system with Remote boot-lid opening mechanism.

But Lose situation is for its ZXi seekers, which now comes with Rear Tail-glass Defogger & Manually adjustable ORVMs only instead of previous Rear Wash-wipe & Power adjustable ORVMs.

IMHO, Its still a good value for money as before.
