Tata to win Jag and LR!

Recommended Posts

Just saw this on the world car fans blog:

http://www.worldcarfans.com/9071217.008/tata-to-win-jaguar-land-rover-battle

Ford has almost decided to sell Jaguar and Land Rover brands to Tata, with Mahindra and One Equity being the other short-listed candidates. The deal is expected to be around 1 billion pounds(7000 crore rupees or something!)

Great news, isn't it? "Made in India" cars under the Jag banner.. Now thats something we will be looking forward to..

But do have a look at the comments. Some of them might not be true, but the perception of Tata and this deal is pretty much evident. Will this really be the case or not?

Well Tata can afford to buy this company .They will learn reliability and good fit & finish from them Land Rover will be a hit as X5 is costly and Price of Land Rover may drop, but LAND ROVER is custom made as one dealer told me.

Yes folks, thats going to be a very significant day for India and for all of us who understand automobiles and the power play  with the western Govts of the powerful automobile lobbies in the world, especially in the developed countries.  We were no where and now the TATA's will bring us into this realm.

But the news that needs to be condemned is that American Jag and Land Rover dealers were a week back lobbying with Ford Motors, saying that the image  and esteem of these brands will suffer badly in North America, when the buyers of such upmarket brands  will learn that these are under an Indian company ownership and management after a buyout.

THIS ATTITUDE OF THE US JAGUAR AND LAND ROVER DEALERS NEEDS TO BE TOTALLY CONDEMNED.AFTER ALL, AN INDIAN IS THE CEO OF CITICORP WHICH GIVES AMERICANS LOANS FOR THEIR MAYBE JAGUAR OR LAND ROVER PURCHASES!!

Don't know whether to cheer or crysmiley5.gif. Jag and Rover with the Tata. Neither of them is reliable. There's a saying that Jag's come with mechanics in the boot, it's "that" reliable. Now if they come into the Tata fold, one can say good bye to it's image, that's the only thing left with Jag. So, Tata Sumo will be replaced with the Rover Disco smiley32.gif, India is truly shining!!!!Durango Dude2007-12-20 18:42:51

Goo news, B U T

Reliability & Service - Ha, Ha Ha!

Who is at the bottom of the quality league in the UK (Jag & Rover)?

Why has the Land Cruiser almost totally taken over the market in the Aussie Outback - because you life may depend on the reliability, and LR is obviously not as reliable.

Just saw in the TOI that this also includes rights to the Daimler brand. I always had the impression that Daimler belongs to the three pointed star.

Can someone please explain this one.smiley1.gifsmiley1.gif

How does Daimler even enter the picture?

And maybe it's naive of me to ask, but why do I see so many westerners commenting on how this is going to affect the quality of the cars? Sure, it might be difficult for Tata, seeing as they haven't any experience in producing high-end cars, but I hear Fiat's giving them a hand, right? Besides, it's not like the whole staff gets fired, it's only at the top level that the changes take place. White people can be so ridiculously stupid sometimes... even if they stop buying Jags and Range Rovers because they're 'Indian' now, it isn't going to make too much difference to the market. (Is it?)

The nonsense is purely of a berely concealed racial nature.

However, both Jag & Rover have serious quality and reliability concerns, as pointed out in one of my earlier posts in this thread.

A small update: The JLR deal wont be completed this year.. Ford has decided to postpone the deal for some reason to the second week of the next year, while Tata has to fiddle around with the pension and technical rights issues with the parent companies.. We've to wait a bit longer..

Jaguar in UK govt talks for 1 bln pounds stg loan !

 British-based

carmaker Jaguar Land Rover is in secret talks with the UK

government over a 1 billion pound ($1.48 billion) loan, just nine months after

the Indian conglomerate Tata Group bought the luxury carmaker, the Sunday Times

newspaper reported.

The request reflects the sharp downturn in the global car market which has

already pushed a handful of big carmakers to the edge of bankruptcy, and one UK

government source said Prime Minister Gordon Brown is studying the request, the

paper added. In a Jaguar Land Rover statement, the group said on Sunday it

supported UK

and European carmaker's industry bodies seeking help from governments but would

not comment specifically.

"We are not going to comment on speculation on confidential discussions

with government," the statement said.

One of Tata's listed enterprises Tata Motors paid $2.3 billion for Jaguar

and Land Rover earlier this year and financed the acquisition with a $3 billion

bridging loan, but since then sales of new cars have plunged.

Tata is looking to the UK

government for a bridging loan for the next 24 months as it is difficult to

access funding markets and the market for its vehicle has fallen causing big

problems finding the cash to make debt payments, the paper said.

The group employs 15,000 workers in the UK.

Lastyear

Land Rover produced 230,000

vehicles at its Solihull plant in the English West Midlands

while Jaguar made 54,000 cars at its nearby Castle Bromwich plant and at

Halewood on Merseyside in north-west England.

It has already cut shifts at the plants.
