With the petrol price going up and diesel being cheaper, powerful and more FE, how do you feel. I won't be surprised if petrol crosses 100 rs a litre by next year, but even then, diesel would have been less than 50rs as govt can't afford to face strike for every rupee increase on diesel.

Now the cost per km for running our swift is almost equal to going on a cab. The cost is pinching me badly. I would switch to a diesel ASAP.

I picked: I am planning to buy a petrol. To be honest, I am sitting on the fence about whether I should buy a diesel or petrol. My heart says petrol but diesel is just about making sense. I have to decide within a month.

My running is around 1500Kms a month. According to my calculations, I would save around 2.5rs per km. Considering the average price difference between petrols and diesels is around 1-1.25Lacs. Which means I would need to run the car around 40000-50000 kms to recover the money. That would take about 3 years and in our family we usually change our cars in three years. So I am not sure what to do.

Awaiting the launch of the Fiesta and the reviews.

It all depends on how many kms you ply and the number of car's you own. I have a single car and run very little, so don't mind the petrol till it reaches Rs.1000/L. The comfort and silence is soothing. Maintainence is paltry, compared to the diesel. The only thing I have spent on the car is fuel and annual service and it makes sense to own a petrol for me.

Some of the best rated cars in the world are diesels, if you are fed the petrol diet it would be very difficult for you to change. Me feels that Technologywise and power wise the diesels are up there if not better. Refinement is a variable, what is still noisy to some would be no issue for another.

However Diesel will soon come at par with Petrol in the days to come, with such a massive difference in the rate the market has already started getting skewed.

But the worst part for you and me are the taxes and duties, they bloody well should come down by half and match international standards!!!

@Friends:

Petrol cars for me any day,I own two petrol cars and one diesel,to be frank its the petrols that I love and proud of owning them.

Although I prefer to buy diesel but only SUV's for their torque,nothing else.My next car is going to be either Skoda Laura A/T or Skoda Yeti Elegance..most probably Yeti within next 2-3 months...

If being true then I don't know why,but I believe that Diesels somewhere have a tractor DNA associated with them which I simply dislike.(Note:These are my personal thoughts)
