Maruti Suzuki R-III named Ertiga

It is surprising to see the mediocre response to this post. In my opinion lot of people in their middle ages with 2 kids and above and will choose this car as it offers 6-7 seating capacity. This gives a cars maintenance with a MUVs practicality. Added with the world famous1.3 multijet diesel with good mileage this sure is going to be a hit with the right pricing.

It's not like we don't want to discuss it; details at best are sketchy, beyond these spy pics and choices of power plants we don't have anything else to discuss. As and when details start making rounds, I have no doubts that this topic while rise like a Phoenix from the ashes.

After watching the side profile of the R3,today I am also forced to say that now there may be really some true competition for Bolero and Xylo..this thing may hurt everything from low end Bolero to the Top end Innova if priced correctly.

If not,then the market it is focusing will not give a second chance to MS and will eat it up.

NOW THERE MAY BE A GAME OF HUNTER GETTING HUNTED...LETS SEE WHAT'S AROUND THE CORNER.

It's not only going to draw from people mover segment, but also from other segment. Say a premium hatch buyer or CS buyer. Here he gets more boot space or a seat for 2 at a slight premium.

The important highlight of this car will be, Only PEOPLE MOVER BELOW 10 Lakhs to have a CAR LIKE FEEL. Both handling and footprint included.

Considering threats to Innova Toyota has already announced it's plans for Avanza which is just right product for Maruti Suzuki R-III.

RIII will be priced in between 6L to 8L and will have similar interior as of New Swift and Kizashi.

@Tejasmehta:

As much I remember,Toyota has cancelled the plans for the Avanza right now,currently they are busy with Innova and Fortuner facelift.

Although,a Toyota low-price MPV will make anyone sit up and listen.

Our domestic players are gearing-up for making a big bang in a new segment of mini-SUVs which will be followed by global companies. Hope Maruti launch R-III MPV with diesel option to compete head to head with Mini-Xylo.

Is there any possibility that Mini Xylo be offered with two back seats in boot just like Bolero to call it 7 seater ?

Premier took first step but due to Chinese & Premier Tag the Rio could not took off.

@Durango dude:

I am still doubtful on the ability of the Maruti badge to make wonders in the segments they are targeting.Still if the product is really competitive then let's see what's there.

All in all,I am still doubtful on the capabilities of the   Fiat 1.3's to run a heavier MUV.Hoping MS don't get us a front-wheel-driven model.TSiVipul2011-08-07 16:13:37

Looks quiet substantial and will succeed with the Maruti badge on it's nose. Will need the 90 bhp version of the 'national diesel' though. Petrol may be SX-4's 1.6 VTVT.

As per Info revealed by ACI editor -Homrazd Sorabjee few weeks back' date='

It'll feature;

-Petrol: 1.4l, ~100+PS K-Series engine.

-Diesel: 1.3l,  90PS DDiS Super Turbo engine from SX4.

Even SX4 is going to feature this 1.4l K-Series Petrol engine(instead of current thirsty 1.6l M-Series engine) at later stage after its localisation.

Any updates on launch schedule of this car after new Swift?

IMHO, MSIL is going to Introduce this car at Auto Expo 2012 alongwith New Dzire CS.

CarWale.com/AutoBild have posted images of a Maruti R3 caught totally undisguised. There is an image from every angle that reveal the car completely. What does Maruti have on its mind? Will it shock everyone with a Diwali release? Or will it bring it to Auto Expo 2012, the same stage where the concept avatar was unveiled two years ago?

The change of state from concept to production has not happened without losses. The design pitch of the production model is lowered for the benefit of dragging down price. The raked bonnet and a two-tier grill brings to mind the Ritz. The expose also reveals that the top-end variant is a six-seater, and the boot is effective only with the third row folded flat

Codenamed YL8, the R3 MPV uses a 1.3-liter Multi-jet engine. Interiors are constructed using the new Swift

Families will now have another option other than Innova.This is slightly smaller than Innova but in the first set of spy pictures we can see people seated in the back seat,so it might be as spacious as an Innova,the luggage space may be compromised a bit .To me Innovan is a 4+3 seater,this can't be any worse than that.

Those with bigger families will now have an option from MSIL too. As far as competition with innova is concerned, Innova is a lot bigger than this. So it may creat a category of its own with big family car image.

@ashikava Innova may be bigger externally but interior space is only enough for 4 adults and 3 children.This will also seat 4 adults in reasonable comfort.

The r3 doors extent to the third row,kids could get inside without moving the seat. Crazy Doc2011-08-12 15:46:34

There is a bit of every MSIL car in R-III. Noticeable to me are Ritz's front and altered headlights of New Swift & backlights of SX4.

Good car overall, and considering its Maruti (plus in-house product), pricing will be right.

@Crazy Doc:

Innova and R III may not be competing against each other because its the overpriced nature of Innova and competent pricing of MS,that will never allow these two UVs to clash.

Now we can rest assured that this VGTed MJD from Fiat can give some great FE figures which will hit the competition a bit too hard,but if you consider the road presence factor,then better less said about this UV.

Expected styling like MIREVA but the expectation is shortlived after looking at the undisguised pictures.

Exterior styling is not very impressive and looks very very basic.

Considering launch of Mini-Xylo also we will be having some not-very good looking Mini-MPVs and SUVs soon.

Though Toyota have not yet confirmed anything about Avanza, it looks like most promising Mini-MPV among the lot if launched on-time. Possibly Toyota is going by "wait & watch" policy for Avanza. Once they study and identify the pricing of other Mini-MPVs such as Mini-Xylo and RIII MPV Toyota will find a gap in price and will launch Avanza.
