parthi2929 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2011 Hi all I read in several forums that car owners claiming tax exemption for central government employees. I could not find a G.O for my state Tamilnadu with respect to this. If any person from tamilnadu has availed this exemption or could opt to pay annually, can you please share the process, respective G.O/reference documents? As per my inquiry in TN RTO, there is no exemption but in karnataka it looks like its available: As per my understanding, its not just exempted but to be paid yearly. Exemption in case, its been already paid yearly in another state and there is a transfer (so that in new state, no need to pay full but yearly) Can the already availed owners, kindly clarify. parthi2929 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2011 some instances in internet: 1) Here mentioned as exemption: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian-car-scene/57566-annual-road-tax.html 2) Here mentioned as yearly pay for CG emp: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/what-car/89063-i-booked-my-car-thread-100.html http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/suvs-muvs-4x4s/42236-queries-buying-new-safari-lx.html 3) Karnataka rto faq: http://www.karnataka.com/node/488 Since central goverment, is well "central", unless this yearly option is available elsewhere in country, this option will not make sense. Check this in andhra: http://www.aptransport.org/html/central-govt-employees.htm Here, if you are paying yearly tax in karnataka, and shift to andhra, u can "continue" paying yearly tax. parthi2929 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2011 If I could get a G.O or relevant reference from TN govt as reference, it would be helpful as many car dealers here are not aware of at all. They say they have never done it.
sgiitk 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2011 Are we not getting a bit confused. CG employees who are transferable can opt to pay the road tax annually, and not as an OTT. This is different from a full exemption. Road tax is a state subject so I do not think the GoI can legislate a blanket exemption.
parthi2929 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2011 No exemption anywhere. Just an option to pay in installment (yearly or half yearly or quarterly). The problem is, its not clearly stated anywhere. And it will be logical only if all states allow this option. So there should be consensus between states about this issue for allowing yearly payment. Else, this option does not serve the very purpose to which it was created.
