bikes for the cops !

Recommended Posts

which bike do you think is most suited for our city cops. for years, the mumbai police had the bullet 350, now slowly replacing it with the pulsar 180 dtsi. what is your opinion?

i think a white karizma with their yellow stripes and orange flashing light will look cool...

Bring back the RD400, the only bike capable of catching all the cars like Accord, C class, BMW. The Pulsar and Karizma as well as Bullet does not have necessary power or handling to catch most of the vehicles out on road today.

Do we really need such a powerful (and expensive bike) for the cops? They all have a radio link and can call ahead. More practical solution may be a good bike in the 150-200cc category. A few high end bikes for the highways and the like may be Ok.

Even with radio link, most cops across the globe are on high powered 750cc bikes. The reason is LoS, ever cop will tell you that. If you loose LoS, even with radio link, its hard to track down criminals. Now that India is gearing up for its fair share of highways, high speed pursuit will soon become a reality, sooner than you can imagine.

250cc bike will be enough for now till 5 years then see upward trend .I think RTR 160 will be better for city as it has good handling and accleration . Our cops need to be first trained and they should even wear helmat even when they are on duty on the road.

If such a thing's gonna happen, I'm gonna dump engineering and join the police force!

The Bullet has that POLICE image and that cannot be changed. Yezdis and Rajdoots came and went. Some lean and thin policemen also use Bajaj  Supers and even the m80's. Pulsars and Karizmas are ok. But nothing comes close to the mighty Bullet.

Very true, except for the bulkiness and the pickup issues. Once it gathers momentum, its on a roll...

The Bullet can't catch a Karizma or for that matter any SUV with 90bhp or a cars the likes of Swift, City, Skoda, Civic etc. Its not about momentum, its severely limited by its low bhp and generally shoddy engine which limits sustained high speed operation. Yezdi and Rajdoot went because they were two strokes, they were in no way inferior to the Bullet in any sense.

But dude, aren't these high performance bikes gonna dent the state treasury wherever they may be employed? All I got to know from Bullet owners is that it gives a great ride when the engine heats up and then the machine really flies, though the light and zippy, racy, pacy RX 100 left the cops panting. Why not get one of those Yamaha gems of the yesteryears back, this time into the police stables?

Thats what I said, bring back the venerable RD350 or 400, they have serious HP to catch any cars on Indian roads today. About the Bullet, please don't believe what you hear, take it from first hand owner, I had one when I was in class 10th, it died in few months, not made for high speeds. Luckily Escorts launched Yamaha RD350 which fulfilled my speed needs till I left for US.

Sadly, the Bullet died in feeble attempts at racing Yezdis and Chetaks. The build quality is atrocious to say the least. Don't worry about Indian treasury, judging by the Camry, Skoda, TLC, Endeavours used by the govt. bodies, a RD400 or for that matter any high performance 600cc modern Japanese bikes won't really set the exchequer back by any means.

Anything on two wheels that's powerful enough for the cops- the pot bellied ones like the fatter bikes. Nowadays most of them move on police vehicles viz. 4 wheelers in (UV's) in many states and only the lower ranking ones have to slog it out with bikes.

the cops should not be allowed to ride bikes ... and if they should they should be on something like a RTR or a 200 and taught how to ride...
