Test Driven: KTM Duke 200

Gotta chance to drive KTM Duke 200 yesterday.

Looks & feel:

Looks wise the Bike looks a bit lower in its Stance but it looks Striking & definitely is having a Style & Stance of its own against its conventional fully-faired rivals like Karizma ZMR, Yamaha R15 2.0. But still the bulkiness/flabbiness of a fully-faired bike can be missed here.

From Side-profile the bike seems to be consisting of Engine & Chassis frame only, as compared to the Fibre-glass panels of its rivals.

But Overall, thumbs up for the looks & the class of Naked Racing bikes introduced by KTM/BAJAJ.

Crank the engine via its familiar ES button(as its same as of Pulsar 135LS) & immediately its engine comes into life with its Rorty yet stronger engine note.

Then comes the Nice & Soft on palm Handlebar Grips which are without Bar end-weights, however they're as Vibration-free as bike at Standstill.

Finding a Driving position on this Smaller yet Ergonomically Perfect bike is very easy & even within very few metres you'll feel like a Home on driving this bike.

Everything is Perfect beginning from its Well-Contoured seat to knee recesses to well weighed Handlebar, etc.

Instrument Console/Meter console is tiny but is much more than being called Multi-functional. You'll need to get used to it to check the Info while on the move.

While its worst part is the Single tone Gearless scooter-like Horn on this Racing-bike costing 1.30 lacs OTR.

Driving Experience:

Swing your leg over it & you'll immediately greeted by its Upright, highly Ergonomic & highly addictive Driving position.

Push the throttle & you're Immediately greeted by the Crisp & Instant throttle response on this bike, which is almost Un-experienced on any Indian Production bike(pardon Kawasaki Ninja 250).

Another thing which comes into light is Its Exhaust note very Rorty & Prominent exhaust Note which gets really Racy & Addicting at High Revs(Simply Wow. . it is.)

Another aspect is its Engine is very very Refined & gets Red-lined very often.

With almost Uniform Torque distribution You'll love to push the bike in every gear, thanks to its Super Sporty Exhaust Note & Instant Throttle response.

6th Gear comes as a Surprise for this bike & with it one can comfortably cruise on this bike at 90kmph for whole day without a fuss.

Ride & Handling is also great & Nothing short of expected, with thanks to its Wider Tubeless tyres & Monoshock Rear+Inverted Fork tube front Suspension respectively.

Claimed Fuel efficiency of this 200cc Racing bike is 30kmpl in City conditions & I'm sure this become much better if driven sedately(however a bit Irrestible).

MY VERDICT:

Highly Addictive Racing-bike for everyone from the makers of India's(manufactured in India) fastest bike i.e. Pulsar 220.

However, Its front Naked styling might get some time to mature in the hearts of the Indians but Overall this bike excels in VFM & Performance fronts.dr_nishu2012-02-23 19:44:43
