REVIEW : New Swift Dzire Ldi

Its a Swift Dzire not Rits :-) but both have same engine so hardly matters.

In 4th Gear it tends to knock at times when the road is slightly uphill

@goen

The philips will be about 70-75 percent light of 100watts bulb and osram will be about 80-85 percent of 100 watts bulb but slightly whiter.

So osram might not be a best fit if your area is too rainy or too cloudy most of the time.

Both these bulbs draw just 60w power so no need to worry about short circuit or blackening reflectors. Regarding its life, my philips are over 3.5 yrs and osram is pretty new, so no word on it's longevity.

Oops !! smiley4.gif

gotta confusion between urs DZire & Sstar's Ritz.

Anyways coming to the topic, You can drive it any way which doesn't make its engine to knock, as the latter adversely affects almost all the components of its engine & gearbox.

What speed can you achieve while driving like this way and under what traffic conditions?

@sstar

you can achieve a max speed of around 40Kmph in 5th gear, 30Kmph in 4th, 20Kmph in 3rd,

The traffic conditions should offcourse be favourable and moving at a constant speed or I even use it at late night when I feel lazy to drive and roads are empty

@Nishu,

Yeah I agree about about this as I have also noticed this torquier behaviour in my M800 as well. But I am still surprised how can someone achieve 50KMPH in 5th gear without pressing accelerator even on empty road.

@satar

My friend this happens only in Diesel vehicles not the petrol ones.

Diesel engine can achive higher speed at lower RPM when compared to its petrol counterpart, hence 40kmph in 5th gear is possible.

You will also observe that the revv limit for Petrol engine is around 6500RPM but for Diesel it is around 5000RPM

@goenkakushal

I am confused seeing your comments here.

I understand that diesel engines have better torque than petrol ones. However, how can engine at idle (without pressing accelator), achieve a speed of 40-50 kmph in 5th gear (as you have mentioned).

I have a petrol car (Etios) and yes i can drive it in 5th gear in 45kmph range easily without any knocking. But yes, to achieve and maintain speed of 45, gas pedal needs to pushed.

Today many engines come with Non-knocking characteristics, i.e their engines are calibrated to prevent knocking in any ger at low RPMs.

In such type of vehicles, ECU adjusts the engine RPM as per the gear & speed of the vehicle to prevent knocking, only if the Clutch isn't depressed.

If clutch gets depressed, then the engine comes to its Actual Idle RPM.

And this above explained, happens in both Petrol & Diesel engines. Diesel engines generally being more torquey can drive in all the gears at Idle, while Petrols show this phenomenon upto their 3rd, 4th gears.

Amongst Petrols:

-My Alto can drive all day long at ~30kmph in 3rd gear without pressing the accelerator pedal.

-Hyundai Santro also reaches upto ~30kmph in 3rd gear.

Amongst Diesels:

-Swift/Ritz/DZire Diesel reaches upto 50kmph in 5th without accelerator pedal effort.

-Micra dCi diesel, also clocks upto ~45kmph in same conditions.

However cars with weak low end torque may not show much of this behaviour.

Had gone for a trip to lonavla - talegoan and back to mumbai..

The car felt very stable and response on highway was sufficient. The car returned a economy of 19.5KMPL as it was driven constanty at 80- 100 Kmph

Great experience... :-D

Am experiencing new problem with the vehicle.

While the vehicle is on move it show Door open sign suddenly and withing 2 seconds its gone again.

This has happend quite frequently.

Needless to say doors were properly closed.

I fear this is due to after market fitting of Autocop.. is it possible?
