Tata's Answer to Maruti's New Small Car

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

- This is just to inform all of you that Tata Motors is launching Maruti's new small car competitor soon.

- Spotted above mentioned camouflaged (From B-Pillar till rear end) car near Urawade Phata (Pune).

- White, Front End like Old Indica (Not Vista).

- Surprising element - Firing like Tata NANO.

- Maybe Nano's tweaked motor into scaled down Indica shell. - Unfortunately couldn't take any snaps.

What's your prediction dear fellow members?

Then you just have missed what maruti is planning to beat itself, another small car , priced between M800 and Alto .

This is a Diwali Launch and will replacing the good old M800 and before the M800 retires.

Its main rivals would be the EON and NANO DIESEL when it comes.

This description points to the Indica eV2 CR4 XL hatchback.

Its a Long wheel base variant of the old Indica and it'll get a front like the Indigo eCS.

Tata is capable ,hope they have improved their quality standards , despite of so many years of experience they couldn't come close to Toyota , Mahindra quality control seems to be better , our companies are let down by our country men in terms of quality and workmanship ,let's hope for great future

What firing, do you mean to say, the Sound?

Could be Tata testing Indica with "Upcoming Nano's 800cc Dicor", so that Tata could price Diesel Indica at 3.5~4L.

or else, it should be a XL. Tata Indica XL could be a turner for Chauffeur driven self use as it provides unmatched legroom with unmatched FE at unmatched price.

 whats is FE /

If the above is whats its FE,

The current Dicor Indica(eV2) Milegae is around 25kmpl ARAI and Tata trying Nano to give around 35-40kmpl, so by putting 800cc engine in Indica, we can safely assume, we get a slughish and a slightly more vibrating, a cheaper Indica with an FE of more than 30kmpl.

i.e., a 30kmpl ARAI Indica Dicor 800cc.

have you ever driven the basic indica (the ones suitable for taxi models) on a steep incline (hilly track), it puffs and coughs , specially the diesel one ,with its current engine,

with yet a smaller engine , it would start rolling backwards, but then a Smaller engine ,would also decrease the overall weight , may be then it pulls through

dont know if it would be adequately powered ...

A 800cc Diesel should be like what a Alto 800cc petrol engine will be like because Diesel is more torquier and Indica is more heavier, so end result can be better.

Slow couch is not a new term atleast in rural India. I have seen Gen1 Indica, Bolero, Sumo still running fine in and around villages.

So a Cheap, Spacious yet Ultra Frugal Diesel should do wonders even though they are Slow or even say, UltraSlow.

I don't think TATA is going to strap on the 800cc engine (to be precise a 700cc engine is been developed for the Nano)either in Diesel or Petrol onto the Indica.

I think it is a 3 cylinder, 1050cc engine TML displayed at the Auto expo 2012. The engine is expected to be rough as it's only a 3 CYLINDER and TML plans to add a Balancer shaft to iron out vibrations.

These are pics of this engine posted here from Auto Expo.

This engine develops 685 ps @ 140 RPM which has 12 valves (4 valves per cylinder)which should reduce the costs of production and also adequately pull the vehicle which is now lighter than the V1 versions and also few BHP higher than the V1 engine.

great info, are these engine photos from your personal collection,if yes , you are a true car lover , at the expo where most of us are clicking away new models of cars , you were clicking engines.Kudos

You laid to rest my engine capacity issues , You know about the engine now if you could tell us here , which tata car does it go into ?

Czar, thats a great piece of info.

This could either be a Fiat derived one similar to what we see in Beat (the power output is 58.5 PS and 150 Nm of torque)

or

A CR4 derived 3 Cylinder.

If its the former, they can sell it to Maruti and can get huge profits or if its later, they can price Old Indica very cheaply, bring Pixel Diesel and can launch a cheaper variant of Vista too(VGT on this)

I think TATA's are trying to learn from Fiat MJD engines and that is how they are engineering their own set of CRDI diesel engines.

CR4 can be taken as a big step in this regards.

Also, i think this 3 pot machine should be a variant of 4 pot CR4 itself and no wonder if TATA name it CR3 (3 pots) or CR4 too.

Wow...that would be a market leading product.

Thank you.

This is a 3 cylinder version of the 1405cc engine used in the current Indica V2, Vista TDi and Indigo CS. A cylinder has been chopped off. to lower it's capacity to 1050cc.

Now a days auto mfg companies are planning to save costs by decreasing the parts in an engine and also making them cough more power with the help of turbo chargers.

the next gen Indicas and Indigos are to run on these engines couples with lower vehicle weight.

Sirjee, You've clicked the engine right but written it inappropriate.

This 1.05l engine posted above by you is a 3-cylinder DiCOR/CR4 engine based on 4-cylinder 1396cc CR4 engine powering Indigo e-CS & Indica eV2.

Reasons being;

-1stly, Previous 1405cc Naturally Aspirated/Turbo engines are IDI i.e Indirect Injection engines, whereas this 1.05l engine is a Direct Injection unit, as also written on the display alongwith it.

-1405cc IDI unit was upto BS-III compliant only, whereas this engine begins it Emission compliance where the Older ends.

-Divide 1396 with 4 & multiply it with 3 & the Resultant comes out to be 1047(~1050cc or 1.05l).

This engine is going to power the TATA's New Santro/Alto rival(Dolphin, Megapixel).
