Life ki tho ho gayi dhantan(i10)dhantan(i10)dhan

Recommended Posts

It all started when the cute Chevy Beat was launched, the desire in me

to own a new car woke up & dint let me sleep. Immediately i did a TD

of Chevy Beat and i was blasted with the features & interiors.

Wifee(my GF in that year) ordered "IF I BUY A CAR THAT SHOULD BE CHEVY

BEAT" smiley14.gif

Next day i thought of booking the vehicle but something did not let me

book it on-time. So plan delayed...or rather changed... :D

Again the hunt for my own car started in March 2012. That complete week i

searched internet left-right-center: bookmarked all the possible

sources, read all the test drive reviews, comparisions reviews,

ownership reviews, bugged good friends of mine blah blah blah...

I felt.... aaaah! i am loaded with full information but the fact is i was confused to the core :P

The best suggestion i got from our ACIan was to do a TD of all the vehicles in my budget.

I am technically challenged w.r.t Cars, so please do not expect hi-fi/charming words below.

My Place        : Hyderabad/Secunderabad

Existing car    : Maruti 800

My budget      : 5-6lakhs

My Usage       : 80% City traffic

Monthly Use   : 20kms a day for office, may be few weekend trips around Hyd (~700-800kms)

Fuel Type        : Not fixed at that time

My list

Chevy Beat (remember above order from my GF)

Hyundai I10 ( always better than Maruti)

Ford Figo

Maruthi(dad & wifee said no maruthi please)

So obviously our First TD was with Chevy Beat, hope you know what will happen otherwise :P

Test Drive of Chevy Beat:

Booked a TD on Chevy website & dealer called the next day. Took an

appointment for the weekend & our family was ready for the TD. SA

got the vehicle to our home around 2pm. A top-end Green Chevy Beat

Diesel LT landed in front of our house. Looked awesome & we could

see the glow in my wifees face. SA gave a very nice demo of the car

exteriors & interiors and handed over the keys to me.

Got in to the car with my wife in the passenger seat, dad & SA were in rear seats.

My god! it was tough for me to see atleast 1-2 meters of the road

infront of me. Started the engine & we were able to hear the murmur

of the engine which i did not like. I want my car to be as silent as

possible. Anyways...

Drove the car for 3-4kms & overall drive was good. Rear seat was

crap & my dad did not like it. 3 adults CANNOT sit. Boot was very

small.

Checked the On road price & its 6.8l for LT, Asked for LPG & its costing 5.7lakhs for LT

Pros(what i observed):

Best interiors & rich in features

LPG is little above my Budget

Service Center is around 5-7kms from my place

Ride quality was good

Front seats were good

Cons(what i observed):

Rear seats are pathetic

No under-thigh support

Front visibility was very poor (i am 5ft11 & it needs a lot of analysis during bumper-bumper driving)

It cannot take rough roads easily, we could hear thud thud on all the

bumps/uneven roads. May be that TD car was used to the max &

suspension were gone.

Next was Ford Figo:

Somehow i did not show much interest in Ford, because by that time i

realized that i cant afford a Diesel vehicle because of my budget

constraints. Still i was not loosing anything for a TD, so booked a TD

of Ford Figo Diesel Titanium.

Oh God! Even this was a green car. smiley7.gif I hate such color, they look so girlish.

This time SA was not so knowledgeable, he gave a crisp demo on exteriors & interiors of what all he could see in the car.

Engine isstart: Low level of noise inside he cabin, may be its not that much driven when compared to Beat.smiley32.gif

My cousin & Dad found hard to get in to the Rear seats. My cousin is

6.2" & i took my revenge on him by banging his head to the roof

many times. smiley36.gif No head room, Big minus point.

Whats wrong with this car, indicators are to the Left side!!! smiley29.gif Many times i started the Wiper during tunings & once i almost hit a two wheeler in confusion. Now brakes were good!

Pros(what i observed):

Drive was smooth & stead

Drivers view was excellent

AC is a chiller-killer, TD was in mid summer and AC saved us.

Cons(what i observed):

Price(for me price was a cutoff point)

Rear headroom

oh yes, rear mirrors wont go down completely - may be very nice feature smiley29.gif

Meanwhile i read few interesting topics from Major Car forums including ACI & somehow inclined towards I10.

Final TD Hyundai I10:

Hyundai cars are well known for their Drive, Fit, Finish & Features

and thanks to SRK for his ads. But actually they are best compared to

Marutis w.r.t Drive, Fit, Finish & Features. isn't it??

Again booked TD on website, next day SA called up and fixed the

appointment for weekend. A day before SA called & informed that he

would be getting a Kappa2 I10 for the TD.

I said "NO" Since i want to purchase an LPG variant, i want to TD the same model. Call me when you have LPG available for TD.

With Beat LPG at the back of our minds, we eagerly wanted to TD I10. In

my budget of 5-6lakhs Beat LPG LT & Hyundai I10 LPG Magna were the

only sensible options for me.

I am not sure if they belong to same segment, because as part of my car

deal finalization i told Chevy SA about I10 Magna & the price

difference between them. SA said 'saar! you are comparing vehicles from

different segments' i was shocked! Where is Beat, where is I10 saar!

Finally SA called the next week & he got a Dark Grey I10 LPG for the

TD. Stockyard for KUN Hyundai is nearby my house so he could manage to

get an LPG for the TD.

My TD with Hyundai I10 LPG along with family:

5 people in car! Yes 5 people.

SA in front passenger seat, Wifee, Dad & Mom in the rear seats. I

want to do a full & final TD with an intention of clearing all my

doubts w.r.t Drive, Space, Comfort, Power, Ride in City traffic,

Interiors, Exteriors, etc etc...

Drive was excellent, i dint knew that i was actually driving the car in

Gas. I did not feel many jerks/power loss through out my 5kms drive. smiley32.gifHowever

2nd gear is bit weak, it wont pull the car if loaded with more people.

Thanks to Gear-Shift Indicator - Suuuper like for this feature.

Anyways... Interiors feel good, dual color is attractive, Seating was

good, road visibility was excellent. suspension was a bit stiff, we

could feel the thuds over bumps when driven carelessly, turning radius

was cool. i was able to take a sharp u-turn without reversing.

Everybody in my family liked the car because of the below pros:

Drive was smooth

Looks very cute after the facelift with nice headlamps & tail lamps smiley32.gif

Twin-Colored Dash board is neat & beige interiors feels great.

Boot space was good compared to Beat

Rear seats are really good. It accommodates 3 adults in the rear

seats(however little squeeze for person sitting in middle) compared to

Beat.

Gear shifting was excellent & it is little above than usual(very comfortable for everyone)

Price in Hyderabad is 5.24l - 5.28lakhs OTR price

Service centers are just in my surrounding areas. No problem for Services.

SA was very knowledgeable & he was very active through out the

drive. He asked us to visit the showroom to see the choice of color.

We went to the near by KUN Showroom & we were taken to the stockyard to finalize the color.

Wifee says White!

Mom says Light Blue!

Dad says Grey!

Dark Grey & White were the contenders: so thought of taking the decision in a day or two.

- Saturday & Sunday we all went around city to figure out which color I10's are more in city smiley36.gif

We say around 80% are Grey & other colors, so the decision was very simple - WHITE smiley16.gif

Yaaay! Car is almost finalized smiley4.gif

Wait, there are few cons as well smiley28.gif

Mileage? kitna deti hai? arry bhai bahut kam deti hai!!

Since it is an LPG variant, luggage boot space is not much(however better than Beat LPG)

Suspension was stiff(TD car which we got was 100kms driven, SA told

since the car is new suspension must be bit stiff) - is that so?

Offer on Table:

Since I10 White is the Final choice, 5.24lakhs was the OTR price.

50% off on Life Tax+3000 corp disc

54000/2+3000=30000 cash off.

14,400 rs worth accessories free free free...(Remote Locking, 3M Sun

Film, Seat Covers, Anti Rust Coating, Body Cover, Leather Steering

Cover, Mudflaps, Matting, Teflon Coating etc etc...)

Rear Spoiler+Registration was offered at 5000.

smiley31.gif

Hmm... I know there is something fishy with the offer! they want to

clear off the cars may be there is something coming in near future! May

be a Diesel I10 in few months? smiley36.gif

Who cares, i need a car now & i am getting a bumper offer now.

Deal done, car delivered on 16th June 2012 without much hassles.

Monsoon in Hyderabad welcomed our new car with showers during our first drive.

I will surely update with pics & initial drive experience.

Hyundai I10 is a small car when you compare with the other segment of cars Ritz,Fabia,Punto,Swift.

If you could have expanded your budget you could have really got into a B class segment

Congrats on your new baby it is pretty fast and very reactive, but

I have few concerns

Fuel cost

Space inside

Hyundai maintenance

Let us see what happens next !! I wish all the good luck to you..

Yes guttala74, you are absolutely right! I10 is a small car when compared to Ritz,Fabia,Punto,Swift. However i did not consider any of them.

Since budget was my main concern, i found I10 to be a sensible option for our usage!

We needed a small car,

Which is perfect for city drive,

Looks cute,

Finish & fit is better in segment,

Spacious for us. My family is of 4 members & we dint feel it is conjusted even with 5th person.

Your concerns are very much valid...

Fuel cost

: Petrol mileage will be around 11-13, LPG will be around same.

Space inside

: Frankly it is spacious! Because i am comparing this with small cars! Its spacious than Alto, Beat or any car in this segment!

Hyundai maintenance

: Hyundai maintenance is not good as Maruti, but its second best in India. Am i not right?

Thanks you very much for the wishes smiley1.gif! Lets see how this car treats me in return!

@Sanz

I agree with your purpose of a car and I cannot say I10 is a bad car. It is a very good compact zippy !!

I like it very much, but I felt little cramped when I sit inside especially on driving seat and the same case with Beat too.

Fortunately or unfortunately my office neighbors are A Chevy workshop and a Hyundai workshop. These two works managers keep chatting with me often, hence I made those comments of service cost.

With the above situation, I felt that Chevy service is cheaper than Hyundai these days !!

@ gurrala74

how much will be the service costs for Hyundai I10? My BIL owns a Ritz & he pays around 700/800 for services.

How about the service cost for your Ritz?

@san

I do not know one to one but, I know that it is double than Maruti cars most of the times.

I spent a total of Rs.2900/- approx in one year and 10000km three free services completed.

@San

It always depends on the service center and your relation with the service manager. I find most of un-wanted items can be avoided if we become little pro-active before giving the car for service as you can discuss this with service adviser/works manager saying them that only required things to be replaced and also with a intimation to you. If you have good relation then you get good discounts on labor and spares too !!

Once service center guys recognise you as a serious customer who asks reasons for everything, then they will be defenately careful while replacing anything or making the bill for you

so I wish all the best to you

Congrats on your new i10 LPG ,its an excellent city hatchback and with LPG kit its more easy on the wallet too.

i10 service cost (paid) cost around 2100 bucks for every 10k km which includes filter change as well (fuel and oil) . Anyways which engine is there with i10 LPG kappa or erlx ? I think to keep the engineering costs down may be hyundai used erlx from santro.

Dear Friends!

I need some information regarding Anti Rust coating & Teflon!

Is there a way to find out if my car was already given a Anti Rust treatment & Telfo coating! I got them free from dealer.

SA says that, Anti rust coating & Teflon is already done. But i want

to know if it is really done! not like im doubting them, but really

want to find a way to identify smiley1.gif

@San

Anti rust coating, if you want to see then you have to get your car lifted and see there must be some coating they have done, but whether it is anti rust or something else is a big question !!

Teflon coating, it is a very simple thing and with the paste and buffing wheel any body could do it for Rs.800 to Rs.1000 these days, but believe me it is not effective so much once you give your car for washing it will loose its effect or you go in heavy rain. So Teflon coating provided by workshop is waste.

Always remember that if something promised by workshop as free, then simply never expect real effect of that or miracles from them. It happens always and its marketing tactic while selling a vehicle.

If you are serious about these two things, then there are specialists for these and you will have impact if you do there, but I hope it is costly. I think please search in the forum where I have seen some body quoting about this subject with some really good shops to get it done.

Or alternatively if you feel not to break your head then just follow these things which I normally do

1. In rainy season, once you go out and come see that you park your vehicle in a place which is dry and wipe out the water on the car with a good cloth.

2. After you are back from a mud journey in rainy season, take a pipe with a normal water pressure and clean it on the bottom of the car, it is difficult, but if you want you can do it and allow the car to dry in a good cellar area which dry.

3. Once Sun is out in a rainy season, park your vehicle in Sun for at least one hour.

4. Buy a good Automotive wax which comes with a good scrubber and do the waxing on your own once in fifteen days, it is much better than Teflon coating.

I hope with the above, you can really take care for your car in rainy season very well.

Anti-Rust is just a coating of paint on the underbody surface of the car, which is probably a Black one.

You can check it out by yourself.

& Teflon Coating or Lamination(whatever your dealer calls) is just a layer of polish-like on the upper paint surface of the car. It can be felt as a soft/glossy layer over the Paint surface of the car.

Don't go for teflon coating by just the name because only Dupont have authetic teflon coating mechanism in India for others its just another name for polish so think of this will you pay 1200 for polish ?

Anti-rush treatment is a recommended treatment especially for people living in coastal areas . Go for this treatment -

1. It prevents rusting in the underbody (obviously)

2. It helps form a protective layer in the bottom on car from sand and dirt

3. It slightly improves the NVH level inside the wheel arches/well .

@ rssh:

thank you for the usefull info, I got Teflon & Anti Rust as part of the car deal.

i dont think they have used a certified Teflon mechanism. however... 'Anti Rust' i was able to see some black/dark paint coated underneath the body. I think this is very much usefull for me during these monsoon days in Hyd.
