Eyeing a larger market share in the fast growing B-segment (125cc bikes), nation's second largest motorcycle manufacturer Bajaj Auto on Tuesday launched Discover 125 Sports Tourer (ST) with the ex-showroom price of Rs 55,391, in Gujarat.

"More and more customers are shifting to 125cc bikes, in which Bajaj enjoys a market share of 40 percent. We want to dominate in this segment and take our share to 50 percent," Bajaj's motorcycle business president K Srinivas said.

"With this new launch we are looking at double digit growth over the base volume," he said.

Last month, the company had sold 1.2 lakh units of 'Discover' in India across all categories like 100 cc, 125 cc and 150 cc.

According to the company, last year (2011-12) the motorcycle industry grew by 12 percent in India, in which the B-segment grew by 38 percent, which is the fastest growing segment.

"In the first quarter of this fiscal (2012-13) the motorcycle industry in India grew by 6.7 percent, in which the 125 cc segment showed a growth of 39 percent," Srinivas said.

"The share of 100 cc bikes has come down to 66 percent, which two year back used to be around 73 percent," he said.

The company has an annual production capacity of 4.75 million units.

Powered by Bajaj's 'DTS-i Twin Spark' technology, for the first time in this category, the engine is designed with four valves.
