This engine option takes the price bracket even higher , will not find these many buyers , the 4*4 will suffer a similar fate.Sales with not be that great, though its always good to have an option.

Try calling the Renault Toll Free number and inquire about 4*4 , they havent even heard its coming , its that strange.

Either they dont know or they are playing dumb. Lets wait and watch

If you see an ford ecosport with badging below the titanium labelling, confused whether its diesel or petrol ecoboost?

Here is the answer according to my observation.

If the badging start in line with titanium wordings then its ecoboost.

If the badging end in line with titanium wordings then its diesel.

Spotted ford ecosport on chennai-tindivanam highway.

It is an 2.0litre, left hand drive version. The pick up excellent, had to try hard to keep up the pace with that vehicle.

Notice the damage to the rear, it seems someone has rear ended the vehicle, because of the spare wheel the damage was only to the rear door.

As per Autocar show aired last night, Hormazd Sorabjee has predicted Rs 5 lakh price tag for the base petrol variant EcoSport !!

Though it was known that Ford is delaying the launch to get max localisation to reduce cost but this price seems to be too low and if true will wipe out the competition from hatchbacks to sedans.

May be Ford is planning to have 1.2l petrol engine (used in Figo) to get the tax advantage otherwise using 1.5l petrol engine will not allow them to cost so aggressively.

Ford Shouldn't do that! by doing this they may sell some decent numbers in entry level, but it'll harm the brand value of ecosport! & people may neglect it in upper trims, as after spending so much money, they will be have a car, which every tom, dick & harry has! & that 1.2 lt. motor will be highly inadequate for such Mammoth!

I agree.

But i thought using 1.2l motor might be the only way they can price EcoSport so aggressively.

However, when Hormazd Sorabjee says something, he normally has pretty accurate and reliable info source.

Though only time will tell what actually comes out.

Having a mass market product will surely bring it the much needed numbers.

Tell me about a single Ford product in India that people just lap on without thinking twice and is doing considerable high numbers so much so that the production has to be considerably increased or people need to wait for months at end.

Let Ford also have an Entry level mass appeal product for once. It wont hurt my eyes at all to see our roads flooded with Ecosport , so what if the super rich dont buy it.

A good product with offerings across the spectrum will always have takers.

Ford go on introduce it at 5l, i will be surely first in line.

Pricing at 4.99L only is a marketing gimmick. The 1.2L petrol version might be slow, but the Image conscious would love to buy one.

The got good choice of engine too, 2 old gen & 2 new gen, so nothing wrong in pricing low.

The 1.2 & 1.5s in Figo can easily be put in Eco's bare basic stripped version and strike the chord.

Pictures aside, here is an important update on the Ecosport. Ford is working hard to give the upcoming EcoSport a very aggressive starting price by heavily localising the car to lower costs. The expected price for the base petrol variant will be in the Rs 5 lakh bracket.

In the flesh, the EcoSport manages to be very modern and aggressive at the same time. The open-mouthed grille, high bonnet-line and heavily raked windscreen make it look stunning. Also, the off-roader-style tailgate-mounted spare wheel isn’t counted in the overall length of the car. This will enable the EcoSport to duck under the crucial four-metre mark and avail of the small car excise benefit sub-four-metre cars have here.

India will be one of the first markets in the world to get the new EcoSport. It will come with two engine options – the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol which puts out approximately 123bhp and the 1.5-litre diesel similar to the one that does duty in the Fiesta. Initially, the cars will be only front-wheel drive, with no seven-seater version of the EcoSport planned.

The carmaker will start bookings for the EcoSport by the end of March, with deliveries starting in May or June.

:D ! Waiting period has nothing to do with real sales figures my friend! Don't forget Ford is one of the largest Automotive manufacture & they roar like lion! There Maraimalai Nagar ( Chennai) plant can produce 1.5 lakh cars in two shifts & 2 lakh cars in three shifts, but ford never produced more than 1 lakh cars! & with the recent investment of there, right now it produces 3,30,000 engines, which earlier was 2.5 lakh! (majority of which exports!) & In 2014, when $1billion worth sanand plant will be completed, together they can manufacture 440,000 cars and 610,000 engines annually! & there target is to be India's second largest car manufacturing company by 2020, which is currently Hyundai which manufactures 3,65,956 cars a year, which is 13.92% of the market share! & by considering the new manufacturers & increasing sales, lets assume this figure as constant! then also ford has more than enough production capacity for that situation! & to talk about maruti , which sold 10,63,599 cars last year is capable of manufacturing 14,50,000 vehicles annually. & Recently, my Uncle bought a Toyota Innova , the dealer 1st quoted that it'll take 60 days to deliver the car! My uncle's garage has around 50 vehicles & he has some nice relations with large no. of people in Automotive industry, so he called a senior person from Toyota & then he got his car at that moment only! So, this whole shortage is marketing gimmick & nothing else!

I personally feel this SUV looks impressive, but in India Drivers are not very Concious about safe driving.. in such segment giving so many features on front panel and on steering may increase the chances of "concentration Lost" while driving..

Waiting for Test Drive to answer the questions of "librankur's" in earlier comments.
