Recommended Posts

As per recent reports VW India is avoiding any concrete plans for new completely new product till 2015.

As currently Volkswagen products in India are suffering from high initial price tags with high maintenance costs & high spare parts costs for its products.

To keep them in check with overall inexpensive Ownership costs, VW India have targeted 90% localization for its products, specifically which which are Mass models, like Polo & Vento.

For them few of the body parts, plastics are already localized & overall the product localization is from 40-60% & further localization will come from localizing the engines, as per VW India.

They've planned to localize the 1.5 TDi engine(based on 105 PS Vento unit) for India, which is going to be used to power the future VW cars including 2014 Polo & Vento variants.

Also read at some place that feasibility studies for VW Up! are also going on & that car is also going to be launched finally when projected 90% localization levels will be achieved.

I doubt if Indian componet makers could satisfy the GERMANS!

Why not? If factories in India are able to assemble, fit and finish knocked down components with German quality for BMW, Merc and Audi, then we can expect close to German quality in Volkswagen..

Manufacturing & Assembling both are totally different processes.

Manufacturing a component locally is completely based on the Quality of the raw materials & skill of the workers involved in its manufacturing process, while Assembling is a process based on training & Quality check only for which workers can be trained.

So i still doubt the quality of local Raw materials can match that of German parts viz their Price.

But the thing is that, "Who cares, actually ??"

& as per famous saying, 'In Rome, do what the Romans do'.

They need to Indian-ize their components or bring them to that level, which the local country conditions & market demands, as the Ford did in their highly successful hatchback -FIGO.
