Maruti Dezire petrol or diesel?

Recommended Posts

I am in dilemma to choose between petrol or diesel sedan as i am getting car through CSD which absorbs diesel car cost. but am worried about diesel engine maintenance as it i have heard it is more prone to repair. my monthly travel is 1000 Km.. also i have heard diesel engine in dezire is one of the best in class.

Kindly give answers about diesel engine cars below.

Does Diesel engine require service @5000 Km interval as petrol engine require @ 10000km?

Diesel engine service should be followed regularly otherwise diesel engine will collapse?

Does diesel engine car is suitable for keeping long time ( as for next 5-8) years as i have heard diesel engine has more wear & tear and collapse early?

Does Crdi Diesel engine too trouble in winters as old traditional diesel engine used to trouble?

If petrol & diesel price come par would you recommend diesel car (same price as petrol car) as it has more mileage?

Actually we had old diesel indica which trouble a lot which is making me little shaky.

Hi addy,

As your running in a month is not more than 1000km u should take petrol. But in some more days petrol price will defenitly increase so i suggest u to take a diesel car. Diesel car have maintance but hardly a 1500rs more than petrol and diesel engines collapse late than petrol and the problem of starting is due to short of glow plug in your car. The new diesel engines there is a lot of progress with no problems so i suggest u to take diesel engines.

Does Diesel engine require service @5000 Km interval as petrol engine require @ 10000km?

-Not true for New DZire. Its same as other Maruti Suzuki cars i.e after every 10,000kms. However for diesel cars of other brands it may vary.

Diesel engine service should be followed regularly otherwise diesel engine will collapse?

-Irregular servicing/maintenance habits takes the toll on every type of fuelled cars, be it a Petrol or Diesel.

Does diesel engine car is suitable for keeping long time ( as for next 5-8) years as i have heard diesel engine has more wear & tear and collapse early?

-Yes, A well maintained petrol car can't even aged in even after 10years of its usage but Diesel might get. But again this depends upon brand, quality, engine type & maintenance habits.

Maruti Suzuki Swift, DZire are having FIAT-sourced Diesel engine & it is globally reknown for its technology, sophistication, performance & efficiency. I know many of the Swift owners who've successfully clocked 2-2.5 lacs+ kms in their Swift Diesel without engine overhaul.

Not even Petrol engines of same or some other brands clock that much mileage figures.

So, buying a Maruti Suzuki Diesel car is a 100% safe bet.

Does Crdi Diesel engine too trouble in winters as old traditional diesel engine used to trouble?

-Not at all. Not even heard of it.

Infact CRDI engines performs better in varying temprature & seasons. Most of them even don't have/need Glowplugs for its operation.

If petrol & diesel price come par would you recommend diesel car (same price as petrol car) as it has more mileage?

-Purely a subjective opinion & it'll depend upon the type of car also.

As Diesel car gives better fuel efficiency than corresponding Petrol, then the more you Drive the more you'll save in driving Diesel car.

Off-topic: Petrol price=Diesel price will never happen in forseable future.

Actually we had old diesel indica which trouble a lot which is making me little shaky.

-Sir, TATA & FIAT/Maruti Suzuki/GM engines are having a world of difference between them.

None of TATA engine won a Engine of the year award but FIAT 1.3 Multijet engine is Multiple winner of 'Engine of the year' award, globally.

You can't compare Indica to a DZire Diesel, they're East-West different.

I'm writing this with my own knowledge & experience, because I own a New Dzire ZDi diesel from ~last 6 months. My friends are having both Indica & Swift Diesel from last 4-5 years.

Gudluck man & buy a New Swift DZire Diesel. You'll be in absolutely safe hands for the ownership of Maruti Suzuki car always.

Kindly give answers about diesel engine cars below.

Does Diesel engine require service @5000 Km interval as petrol engine require @ 10000km?: False. Diesel needs servicing at 10K interval/annual interval whichever comes earlier.

Diesel engine service should be followed regularly otherwise diesel engine will collapse?: Today's mordern diesel engine technology is more robust and rugged comparison to the earlier once. Though your statement is true to some extent but there is no need to worry for this concern. Serive onces in a year is fine.

Does diesel engine car is suitable for keeping long time ( as for next 5-8) years as i have heard diesel engine has more wear & tear and collapse early?: False. infact in todays world, petrol engines are coming with the technology borrowed from Diesel. Ford's ecoboost engine which has gained attention across the world, is an example of this. Checkout VW Jetta TSI, Skoda Laura TSI are some examples.

Does Crdi Diesel engine too trouble in winters as old traditional diesel engine used to trouble?: Completely false,

If petrol & diesel price come par would you recommend diesel car (same price as petrol car) as it has more mileage?: Yes.

Actually we had old diesel indica which trouble a lot which is making me little shaky.: Checkout new Indian eV2 OR VISTA just to gain the understanding of mordern CRDi diesel technology. Since you have tasted old Indica then you will be surprised to see the improvments in terms of engine.

You definitely need a diesel for the monthly running which you mentioned, however, this is not true the diesel needs more care than a petrol...especially for today's mordern diesel technology.

Check out my comments corresponding to your concerns in the quatation above.

I'ld suggest you to for a petrol, as your running is not that big & price barrier between Petrol & diesel is becoming narrower day by day, due to govt. new approach towards subsidy & it may vanish to great extent in next 2 years! plus a petrol car has better feel, pickup & life! & Maruti is outsourcing the diesel moters & hence there servicemans aren't that much skilled with it!
