hi, i have a zen mpfi and m running it for about a month without an airfilter. i have used a pvc pipe and feeding the engine with cold air from outside the car. the result: definately: an increase in pickup of the car in mid/higher revs and good sound and most likely i am getting better fuel economy.

now, what kind of complications i can have?? will it be like sort of cleaning up stuffs...like the trottle body and the engine oil etc or can be major mechanical failures?? is there any possibility of engine ceaseup?? please help, thank you.

making myself busy untill my 1.3engine comes.. :D so i uscrewd the muffler unit from my car today(cat is present)...there is a slight increase in pickup in the upper ranges i guess..coz the 2nd n 3rd gear has become really good to overtake. but its almost negligible compared to the huge sound the car is making(embarrassing sometimes  ). the thing is its not that huge a difference , is it because of the cat? about the sound,i thing nothing much can be done, rite? and its a direct open from the cat, should i put a short pipe from the cat?? any advantage?? help!

The increase in performance is probably a placebo effect. Unless you swap your manifold for specifically calculated and designed headers, the performance gains are as good as non existent. As for the lack of an air filter, you might face corrosion on the engine internals due to grainy particles. I would recommend putting the filter back in,

Cheers
