PrancingHorse 1 Report post Posted January 10, 2013 Maruti is planning to go into overdrive in the next two years with a series of new launches planned including the SX4 Crossover The other SX4 model (codenamed YL1) will be a new upgraded saloon that is likely to be launched in the latter part of 2013 or early 2014 with a variety of new features. The SX4 model, originally planned for Europe, is designed by Giugiaro’s ItalDesign studio and is in production since 2006 with the SX4 shared by Fiat and Suzuki; the Fiat-badged model is known as Fiat Sedici. For developing markets like India and China, the saloon version of the same name was developed with a crossover styling. Globally, Suzuki calls the SX4 a ‘sporty crossover’, and the carmaker showcased it at the Auto Expo 2012. Maruti is believed to be targeting a production capacity of 100,000 units per annum for both the new SX4 crossover and saloon models, say sources in the know. The SX4 in the hatchback version occupies a niche in a market of five-door mini-SUV crossovers in Europe and is available in petrol variants of 1.5 to 2.0-litre engines. In diesel trim, the SUV crossover is powered with Fiat’s 1.3 to 2.0-litre engines and is available as a 4WD. It is expected to be introduced in India with similar engine options to boost flagging sales of the SX4, as Maruti is keen to be seen both as a saloon as well as a small car player. Maruti is also is getting its new 800cc diesel engine ready in Japan; this motor will power its new small car that will be launched in end-2013 or early 2014. The new five-door model on the A-star platform (codenamed YL-7) is expected to be rolled out just before Diwali and will offer the same petrol and diesel variants as available in the current A-star, say sources. Also in the pipeline is an upgraded Swift in petrol and diesel variants and a Zen that is due to be out in 2013. Sstar 77 Report post Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) The SX4 in the hatchback version... This is already available in US market for more than a year before, but the good thing would that now Indians would also like to see it. However, it has to compete with Swfit as well otherwise, they both bite each others share. So there has to be some decent price difference as well as addition of features. I would not be surprised it base variant of SX4 hatch would come with all the -features of Swift Zxi/Zdi. Maruti is also is getting its new 800cc diesel engine ready in Japan; this motor will power its new small car that will be launched in end-2013 or early 2014. Is it 3 cylinder version of MJD 1.3 or a completely new one? I bet it is 3 cylinder version of MJD. Btw...this would come in Wagon-R, Zen, A-star as well. AMG1 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2013 Its too late for Maruti to launch a hatch based on the same styling as the SX4. But yes, if they price it lower, ie base model costing around 5.5 lakh or so (obviously diesel) then it can surely dent sales of the Duster and Quanto. But I find such low price highly unlikley. Lets not forget the SX4 is overall a date product.
BonFre 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2013 New Swift coming in 1st half of year ? What could be the possible changes ? I guess they could give the beige treatment on the insides similar to Dzire.
CarCrazyASTL 16 Report post Posted January 12, 2013 My pick would be a SX4 Crossover; as SX4 has that charecter even in it's sedan form! But I think, A-star sedan will be more successful, as indian peoples are crazy for sedans!
CarCrazyASTL 16 Report post Posted January 12, 2013 & I'm hearing this 800cc diesel rumor for years! & devloping a diesel moter isn't a easy job, even for giant like honda! & MS is claiming to devlope a 800 cc one; which will be world first & that too within a year! Hi, I concur with you on this. The air has been around for a while about the puny oil burner from Maruti, but no spy images of alto being tested with this or any other MS model. Hope it is not mere rumors and Maruti is up for something serious.
dr_nishu 198 Report post Posted January 12, 2013 I think there's something fishy about the details of so called expected launches by Maruti Suzuki. -SX4 platform is already on it end of its lifecycle, so is the SX4 brand in India & is completely unexciting now. Instead, a mild SX4 facelift is expected in early 2013 & -2 all new sedans are expected one based on ertiga & another CS sedan based on A-star. -Zen is also a dead brand in India now, the best time to revive it was the time of launching Alto k10 but now its completly over now. -What about Mini SUV, which was displayed at autoexpo 2012 ? -Only news of sub 1000cc diesel engine seems to be true. AFAIR, this page/pic posted above was released in some newspaper at least a year ago but now its authenticity seems to be questionable considering the market trends & recent launches by the company. PrancingHorse 1 Report post Posted February 19, 2013 Here are pictures of what seems to be a facelift Sx4. Not a lot of changes but it seems to have a new grille and a new bumper. No disguise to be seen at all. Have to wait and watch what a facelift can do to this car Pic source: Team BHP
Arjun_M 11 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 We'd love to have the SX4 hatch and more so the SX4 AWD here. The brand, though, needs a major shake-up in styling. Rather, Maruti/Suzuki needs to re-style all their cars. All the designs are rather dull and uninspiring. And of course, better safety features across the product line. Actually, full safety features. They keep emphasising the need to drive safely, but their own cars are not safe enough.
