Ford under fire for controversial ads

Recommended Posts

Ford India has come under fire after three distasteful ads created by its ad agency - JWT India - were uploaded online. Apparently unapproved ads were uploaded on advertising website adsoftheworld.com, by a division within JWT India that caters to Ford's account.

Excerpts from an article from The Hindu

Just when you thought issues between Italy and India are dying down, a leaked Ford Figo advertisement depicting former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and a car trunk full of gagged and handcuffed women has sparked yet another controversy.

Produced by advertising agency JWT India, one of the ads for the subcompact car shows a cartoon of three scantily clad women gagged and crammed in the trunk of the Figo while Mr. Berlusconi looks back from the driver’s seat, flashing a peace sign. The tagline at the bottom reads “Leave Your Worries Behind with the Figo’s extra-large boot,” referring to the former Prime Minister’s many affairs and bunga bunga parties.

....

....

“We deeply regret this incident and agree with our agency partners that it should have never happened. The posters are contrary to the standards of professionalism and decency within Ford and our agency partners. Together with our partners, we are reviewing approval and oversight processes to help ensure nothing like this ever happens again,” Ford India said in a statement to The Hindu.

The media agency delivered what Ford asked them for , MORE EYEBALLS for their brand/product.This new found/created controversy is making them the talk of the town.

The humour element is just over flowing here, I like it.

Its FUN to know how creative people can get.

Its good that they are in trouble ... these new age media agencies think that they can get away with anything & can pull off any ad ... Its high time some discipline is maintained.

Someone had to be made the scapegoat to slower the speed of the falling knife. Why just three of them fire everyone at JWT

I see nothing wrong in the ad, there is nothing here thats not true and not widely known, its only when some highlights it that it becomes a problem.

A similar thing happened in india to a cartoonist when he voiced his vent through his cartoons.

Now i am sure ,something actually happened to the term "Freedom of Expression"

If they could have been more creative in just showing them in the boot enjoying the ride I think they would have gotten away with it.

But these ads are showing them them tied up & gagged which is majorly why the ads have been under spectrum.

This not the rightfull way to depict boot space, it is just plain stupidity, what next we can expect from ad agencies? An ad of car with huge boot space depicted that you can stash many dead bodies in it! They should learn from Hyundai to how clearly potray your features instead of being stupid.
