Do adventure bikes need sports engine?

Recommended Posts

Do adventure motorbikes really need sports engine? Various manufacturers are plonking their super litre sports bike engines in their adventure and motocross bikes, the latest to join that bandwagon is KTM, which is developing an adventure motorcycle with flagship RC8 engine. So would Ducati, BMW and Yamaha in the coming future, but did adventure motorcycles ever felt the need of such huge sports engines. The basic need of an adventure bike is loads of torque just like a cruiser bike but powertrain sharing between models has made manufacturers crazy by plonking huge 4 cyl high revving engines from their flagship, is this lunacy really justified?

They might use the same engine, but it generally goes into a lot of R&D before they use it for another (maybe an adventure version). Consider a similar example, Bajaj has continuously used Pulsar engines on their Avenger variant, but they have reduced power output and torque has been increased.
