WagonR - StingRay coming soon EDIT: Now launched starting at Rs. 4.09 lakhs

Recommended Posts

Both grills and Head light design is really eye catching. If they can reduce the body rolling & improve the ride quality of Wagon-R the sales figure go beyond 20K/Month.

Tall Boy & Body Roll can never be seperated and Ride Quality & Maruti is again mutually exclusive(New Swift alone is ok)

Just give it a 1L diesel & StringRay Face, the Wagon R will be easily selling 30k MoM.

This is stunningly looking Wagon-R and God forbid other players in the market if it is lauched in India

This actually is a reaction from Maruti's side to counter the upcoming New i10. With Ritz doing very badly, Stingray alone could stop customers from switching loyalty.

Besides the fact that it has taken 8 years to come to India , the StingRay looks Stunning .The STING RAY would STING its competition and is Marutis RAY of hope to bring down its competition.

This certainly would be priced at a 30-40K premium and that would be a talking point.

They need to launch it soon as any delay would eat into its pie with other launches on the horizon.

I like this design better , just googled it

I have been excited about this car since long. Wagon-R was always Mr. Practical, this takes the game forward with exciting looks coupled with increased practicality. Good package if Suzuki doesn't go over-board with pricing. I would have loved to see this car replacing the Wagon-R, selling along-side is not a brilliant idea, atleast from a Customers perspective.

Except new bumpers & lights, i see nothing distinct or special in this car.

Rather than calling it a new car it can be called as a Wagon-R 'STING RAY' edition from Maruti Suzuki.

At a time when even diesel cars are struggling with their sales numbers, what's an idea of launching a update of an already expensive product.

Despite the fact that this SR is already in their other global markets for more than 8 years,

Maruti Suzuki may by very stingy and would not launch it in our market with all those wonderful

interiors. Just have a look at the seats and the dash mounted auto gear stick.

They would, in all probability, do a sticker-n-bumper-job and collect a hefty premium

with the same old/existing interiors and fit-n-finish devoid of those excellent seats and other stuff.

On the other hand, if they can bring it `as it is' (with regard to the fit-n-finish and interiors) and

plod their K series engine and offer it in auto gear format, then, probably, people who are

already willing to buy a regular Wagon-R, may, opt for this, at a premium.

That being the case so, then they would be selling in very few numbers. That means, more

trouble for parts and servicing for those who choose to buy this SR.

Let us wait and see how MS is going to handle this.

If they come out with StingRay's interiors( indian 6 seater ), it will be very good for MSIL, but that would be priced more than Ritz.

As Ramesh Sir says, if they bring JDM StingRay with 1 L auto from A*, this will be selling like a hot cake.

These interior changes are not very different then existing one however, if a diesel is planned for the upcoming variant then it would surely be a tough competition for others in the market. And probably kill Beat - D in first over itself.

Absolutely like the Interiors in the above pics. They are so functional & comfortable!

Just look at the area that has been freed due to shifting of gear lever to the dash & the front conjoined seats, that's just over-whelming!

The Wagon R Stingray has been spied in India at a photoshoot. Looks like Maruti is set to launch the car soon. As per CarSizzler’s spy pic of the WagonR Stingray (caught on camera during an official photoshoot), the car looks bold upfront with wraparound headlamps and a chrome front grill, much like the Stingray available in Japan. A source close to the company also said that the Stingray gets a pair of projector headlamps that breaks the usual monotony of halogen headlamps in hatchbacks and makes the car look modern. Also, the tall bonnet and large airdam gives the Stingray a dominating and bold presence and should turn a lot of heads. The Stingray also gets rear crystal lamps as standard and extremely sporty gun-metal coloured alloy wheels. The rear and the overall boxy profile of the WagonR is retained and so is the 1.0l K-series engine that does duty on the A Star, Alto K10 and the current WagonR and dishes out a decent power of 68PS at lofty 6,200rpm and a maximum torque of 90Nm 3,500rpm mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. With the same setup underneath, the Stingray is just a facelift version and should drive similar to the current WagonR. Maruti Suzuki is further expected to roll out a ‘Green’ version (CNG) of the Stingray as well that might be launched later.

On the inside, the Stingray is sportier than the current WagonR and will get all black interiors with blue backlit speedometer. With the WagonR Stingray Maruti Suzuki will be competing with the likes of Honda Brio, Hyundai i10, Ford Figo and the Chevrolet Beat. Maruti Suzuki however won’t discontinue the current WagonR that still sells in good numbers.

I am not sure if Maruti will take a chance and launch with the projector headlamps (they alone with cost 10k each). Also if launched It will at least command a premium of 50k+ wrt WagonR if the quality remains the same as shown in the pics.

New Wagon-R Sting ray spied at maruti dealership, launch expected by 20th August.

post-67-0-60241700-1376596651_thumb.jpg

Maruti Suzuki will launch the Wagon R Stingray next week as the vehicle has reached stockyards of some dealers. This premium version of the Maruti Wagon-R is offered in three variants LXi, VXi and VXi with option pack.

post-67-0-56435600-1376596656_thumb.jpg

The option pack of the Maruti Wagon R Stingray consists of ABS, driver side airbag, steering mounted audio controls, electrically adjustable rear view mirrors and projector headlights. Maruti Suzuki will price the Wagon R Stingray between Rs. 4.1 to Rs. 4.9 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is around Rs. 50,000/- more than the regular Wagon R.

The difference between the regular Wagon R and Wagon R Stingray is not really vast. Both cars use the same underpinnings but the Stingray looks more aggressive due to its bold styling. The front-end is quite boxy instead of smooth flowing, something different and unique in the Indian market. Projector headlights are a first in this segment and a body kit is present too.

Powering the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Stingray is the same old 1.0-litre, K-Series petrol engine. This 3-cylinder motor generates 68 PS of power and 90 Nm of torque, linked to a 5-speed manual transmission.

There is almost no visible difference at rear from regular Wagon-R.

All the changes are at the front, looks almost identical to mini Safari Storme.

The 2nd picture from above post shows quite a distance between front grill/headlight and bonnet/bumper.

Almost looks like either bonnet is not properly shut or a broken bumper.

That visible gap portion is not by a fault, instead it seems to be a design or a gap for Air intake for radiator as its grille is a closed plastic unit, so all air/heat exchange has to be done through this alongwith huge airdam of its front bumper.

Frankly speaking, this car is the best looking tall-boy car in India(while some may think SANTRO Xing is) but my vote is for this car, as it's having the Muscle-looking element to its front end, which might give its customers the feel of a mini/tiny SUV within very small & pocket friendly budget. I'd rate its front-end much better than traditional blue-eyed wagon-r plus its interiors now gels well with its STING-RAY theme looks.

However, it would be better if it can replace current Wagon-R, which it easily can. I assume minimal price changes w.r.t old wagon-r, considering its base variants(LX, LXi) will be coming with conventional Multi-reflector type headlamps than Projector ones.
