AMG1 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 That's quite a detailed coverage. Surprising to know that the diesel is cheaper than the petrol. Not a big fan of that so-called Panaromic sunroof anyway.
sachins 51 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 Looks smashing, specially the front grill part. This should give good competition D segment cars and also other big german players. The price should come down (only by 2014/2015) when it starts to get locally assembled.
librankur 39 Report post Posted May 31, 2013 @prancinghorse you have the best job in the world.Great coverage as always. @sachins this segment always suffers from the lack of ( huge ) volumes so CKD option is always an unviable option.Hoping this changes this time. PrancingHorse 1 Report post Posted May 31, 2013 Thanks librankur I really really love the looks of this car. It should sell in decent numbers. On the other hand as soon the A has been launched, Mercedes has hiked the price of the B Class by a whopping 3 lakh rupees Source: Oncars.in
librankur 39 Report post Posted May 31, 2013 If you are so close to action you are bound to fall in love. The hike seems to be making headroom for the CLA , Merc seems hell bent to catch up with Audi and BMW.
motorj3di 1 Report post Posted May 31, 2013 The launch of the A-class really makes me wonder why they bothered launching the B-class here. Was it greed? Were they in a rush to offer an answer to the X1 and Q3 (the A-class wasn't ready in time)? Indian luxury buyers care mostly about image - and when you compare the two, A-class and B-class - there's no contest. Why would anyone buy the B-class anymore? I can almost guarantee no one is thinking about practicality in a Rs 22-25 lakh hatchback. Why would you buy an R-class over a GL-class? Same problem. The B-class barely does double-digit sales figures, and after the price hike as mentioned by PrancingHorse, that will become even worse. Mercedes-Benz India may have just shot itself in the foot. PrancingHorse 1 Report post Posted May 31, 2013 Adding to what motorj3di said, considering the price increase on the B Class, people might just want to shell out a little more and buy a C. Considering they jacked up the petrol B Class price, I wonder what the diesel B will be priced at. Thats due to launch coming month.
reyen7 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2013 Audi CEO Michael Perschke said after the launch of the A-Class... " why would anyboday buy a 22 lakh hatch back when thay can get the Q3 at rs 27 lakh" Mr Perschke shud understand, owning a three pointed star is altoghether diffrent thing. Its a proud thing u know Mr Perschke...!
Sstar 77 Report post Posted May 31, 2013 Considering they jacked up the petrol B Class price, I wonder what the diesel B will be priced at. Thats due to launch coming month. Very true. Perhaps they may want to keep the slot for CLA occupied by B until CLA comes in.
Arjun_M 11 Report post Posted June 12, 2013 Mr Perschke should actually try to beat the price with the Audi A1 or A3, instead of just mocking Mercedes. Clearly, Audi seems least interested in entering this segment. I do hope this car does well, for it will not only generate more sales for Mercedes, but also create a new segment of large hatchbacks for urban buyers. Saving some millimetres, it will be more practical. Besides, we don't need all of the boot space anyway when we're in the city.
GuruGautham 2 Report post Posted June 17, 2013 Great car and a bold move by merccedes on launching it i india. But WHY have they launched only the base models (108 bhp for diesel and 120 for the petrol). This is obviously a car for the young so they should release the top models too (i'm talking about an A250 not an A 45 amg) because otherwise the car wont have the performance to back up its looks
Arjun_M 11 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 @GuruGautham- Maybe because the young don't have as much money to spend as their middle-aged counterparts? In fact, most petrolheads and sports-car afficionados who opt for the real deal are not particularly young anyway. Besides, these bhp/Nm figures are hardly docile, given the much-celebrated launch or facelift of several cars that don't even hit 80bhp, be it petrol or diesel. If they introduced the top models, their only customers would be older folks who feel young at heart- but they're a lot more trustworthy for keeping fast cars. The young ones, in the meantime, will head for the tuning shop.
librankur 39 Report post Posted June 19, 2014 Mercedes wowed by the response it got from the introduction of both A abd B class is planning to celebrate it in a big way. Expected launch of EDITION 1 of both A and B Class , they would be feature loaded additions of the same. More ,when i have more.
