PrancingHorse 1 Report post Posted May 21, 2013 Hot on the heels of the Polo Tsi GT launch, VW is now testing the GT TDI. And here are the spy shots. Caught by an enthusiast, the test mule of the Polo is seen wearing the GT and TDI badges. At the front, the grille was said to be similar to what we have seen on the Polo GT TSI. Even the alloys are similar to the GT TSI. Sagar also confirms that the car had black interiors. The car was being run alongside a Vento and a Rapid. That could hint that the Polo GT TDI could use the same 1.6-litre TDI engine that powers the Vento and the Rapid. Interestingly though, we are told by people in the know that Volkswagen is also busy testing a new 1.5-litre TDI engine that could replace the 1.6-litre powerplant across the lineup. The 1.5-litre mill is said to be more fuel efficient than its slightly larger counterpart and because it qualifies for the tax-cut, it could also be a more viable choice for the Polo GT TDI, the Vento, the Rapid and also the upcoming Up! and Citigo city cars. AMG1 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2013 So now the big question is? What is the Polo GT TDI? A 1.5-litre diesel Polo with a DSG? B 1.6-litre diesel polo with a DSG? C 1.6-litre diesel Polo with a 5-speed manual?

librankur 39 Report post Posted May 21, 2013 Shed the GT tag , give us an affordable DSG , countries first Hatchback Diesel Auto , WOW. No point making cars that end up only as show pieces. Does any one has any sales figures of Polo GT TSi ?
Sstar 77 Report post Posted May 22, 2013 I feel it could be 1.6 Diesel with DSG but pricewise it would be in Vento's terrain for sure. Not much of worth in terms of its price.
F30 101 Report post Posted May 22, 2013 Isnt this variant supposed to be called the GTD ? Source: http://www.autocarindia.com/News/323054,scoop-vws-polo-16-diesel-hot-hatch-on-its-way.aspx
rohanraut92 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2013 I suspect it will have 1.2 or 1.4L engine with more than 100 Bhp sure. And will also have DSG, ESP and other goodies of GT TSi

photoauto 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2013 Hi.. What ever may be equipment level, the price will be quite high. VW is taking all these efforts just to keep buzz around the car and brand. At the same time it quenches the thirst of power of some petrolheads or say dieselheads For sure, these are not the volume churner variants.

I doubt this variant will come anywhere under 10 lakhs but then I dont think VW are looking at this a volume car. VW seems to be hell bent on expanding the Polo model range with the CrossPolo also being tested simultaneously.

True...in fact Polo itself is not a volume churner these days and VW is trying every single bit to keep its sales chart ticking.... be it EMI option or low interest rates. rav405 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2013 VW need to upgrade the engine and gearbox in the vento as the auto gearbocx in the vento is really sluggish and the engine has a lot of lag before the turbo kicks in before 2500 rpm.....very lathergic feel to the gear box...... Yo Er. 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2013 When is this expected? also, does anyone have concrete information if it will be a manual or DSG. The DSG is too expensive for the Vento, so don't think it would make a lot of sense to put it in here, as that would almost push the price up to that of the Verna automatic (current cheapest automatic in the country)... livetodrive 17 Report post Posted June 10, 2013 A Polo at 10 lakhs would sell lesser than the worst Pizza available in Mumbai. If it comes with DSG, ESP and all the other goodies at an on road price of around 9.5 to 10, it stands a fair chance as that will be a first in India and what a convenience that would be and of course a great selling point, but otherwise NO CHANCE VW. creativebala 178 Report post Posted June 10, 2013 (edited) DSG is technically too advanced and its failure rate is high, so be prepared to keep 2-3L in your account anytime after your TDI DSG purchase. Edited June 10, 2013 by creativebala
F30 101 Report post Posted June 10, 2013 DSG is technically too advanced and its failure rate is high, so be prepared to keep 2-3L in your account anytime after your TDI DSG purchase. Why anytime after purchase ? Shouldnt the failure be covered in warranty ?
creativebala 178 Report post Posted June 10, 2013 Your DSG failure could be post warranty, but general service consumables itself will be the costliest in Premium Polo.
dr_nishu 198 Report post Posted June 11, 2013 C'mon VW Manual gearbox driven cars are more fun to drive as compared to DSG ones, why wasting resources & customers money on a flop thing, if it's already proven as a failure here in such environment & conditions. If you want to couple these engine to Automatic gearboxes then why not pick & share conventional AT(with Torque converter) from Vento/ Rapid petrol. It'll give both volumes as well as ease of maintenance & spare parts inventory for ASCs' as well & are quite successful here also.
