Spy shots: Hyundai Elantra facelift

Recommended Posts

Spy shots of the Hyundai Elantra facelift have surfaced online. The front bumper and the foglamps are likely to be revised. Headlamps get new detailing which look more premium than that of the current car. As with most facelifts, the alloy wheel pattern has changed to a more interesting design.

The rear of the car also gets slight revisions with the combination lamp getting new elements. The interior would not undergo any drastic changes while the same applies to the hardware as well. The Indian Elantra would continue to use the 1.6 litre 126bhp diesel and the 1.8 litre 147 bhp petrol engines mated to 6-speed manual or automatic gearboxes.

The 2014 Hyundai Elantra is expected to make its global premiere towards the end of 2013.

Hyundai teases the facelift 2014 Elantra

Those are not expected to be significant as Hyundai does not want to change much over its highly-successful model that has been selling well particularly in the United States and Canada.

Hyundai Elantra has become the top-selling Hyundai model in the USA surpassing the previous year leader, the Sonata mid-size sedan. Although Elantra family consists of three models, the 5-door GT hatchback, two-door coupe and 4-door sedan, the carmaker plans to update only the latter one.

The GT and coupe models are still relatively fresh on the market so they do not need any major styling updates.

The Elantra 4-door sedan too will not be getting any significant mid-cycle styling updates.

You can expect to see a slightly redesigned front signature grille and new bumper with updated fog-lights.Back at rear, the updated model will also incorporate a slightly revised bumper and tail-lamps using LED technology.

The petrol GDI four-cylinder engines, used in the current Avante are modern enough and they deliver good fuel economy.

A diesel engine could be added to the range to satisfy an increased demand for diesel-powered cars demand in Korea.

The Avante facelift is slated to go on sale in Korea in the third quarter of 2013, while overseas release date is not known at this point.

The updated Elantra sedan could debut at the L.A. Auto Show in November this year, but this remains a speculation currently.

Great video giving an up-close look at the interior + exterior of the facelifted Elantra!

The exterior of the new Elantra gets styling updates in the form of re-shaped headlamps with LED DRLs, a revised grille, a more muscular-looking bonnet, triangular fog lamps and new-design and larger alloy wheels (from 16-inchers to 18-inchers). The rear gets a new bumper with housings for the reversing lights and rear fog lamps and tapering tail-lamps that extend further on to the boot. The license plate has also moved from the boot to the rear bumper.

In terms of safety kit, the new Elantra gets active safety features such as a blind-spot monitoring system, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning with active lane control and a rearview camera with a cross-traffic alert system.

The highlight in the cabin of the Elantra facelift is the addition of a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard on higher-spec trims. Lower variants make do with the previously available 7.0-inch unit.

Finally a walkaround! Here's a better look at the new Elantra Sport... it's powered by a 201hp 1.6-litre turbo-petrol GDi engine. As standard it gets a  six-speed manual gearbox, but buyers can pay more to opt for a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. As for the cosmetic changes when compared to the standard Elantra, this gets mesh grille insert, dark multi-spoke 18-inch wheels and LED headlights as standard.
